Having a really nagging problem with WoW right now.

System
  • Gigabyte Z270
  • Corsair 8GB DDR4 @ 2400MHz
  • G4560 3.50GHz
  • GTX680
  • EVGA 650w Gold PSU
Now when I play WoW i'll get crashes very quickly after starting the game, less than a few mins in and some times i dont even get past the systems settings menu. Graphic quality is set on recommended and all drivers up to date etc. When it crashes it needs a hard reset of the PC

What I have done to date

Tried a different card - a 7970 and even after a complete reinstall of windows with this card exactly the same issue.

Back to the 680 and another fresh install and tried all the suggestions on web about WoW crashes and nothing helps.

It runs Furmark flawlessly

Right now the card is out and I'm running on the IGPU but not getting over 5-10 Fps with graphics settings set to lowest possible.

Have also tried running WoW off different drives.

So right now i'm pretty stuck any help for what to trouble shoot next would be much appreciated

Any error message/info in event logs? Clean WOW install after re-installing windows or copy of old folder?

Assume you have run without addons etc.

Just to clarify, was the re-install the windows 10 built in refresh/remove everything or a fully clean install from media?

Full clean install of wow and with no addons and win 10 installs are fresh ie format drive and install as new

Just for the sake of completeness, I take it crashes aren't happening when you use the igpu?

As an aside, what is your sound set to? I once had a crashing problem in wow and it turned out it was actually a sound issue.

Oh and are your running full screen or full screen windowed?

Try a diferent PSU. Had something similar happening in the past and it was the psu on its way out. Only crashed when playing (drawing more power).

Running Full Screen and put sound to lowest options. Going to try the PSU switch over the weekend. Before I put the 680 in the IGPU was able to play it fine at around 40-50 FPS. After I tried the 680 with no luck and completed a fresh install of windows and the Intel HD drivers I cant get more than 5-10fps from it.

It doesnt crash but still isnt that playable due to the low fps so something going on somewhere
