I got the itch for an upgrade. Currently have a 3600 cpu and a 3060ti gfx card running with 16gb ddr4. So, thinking either a 5800x3d or 7800xt

Help me choose!

Just want to get one of those parts at this moment in time. Gaming at 1440p if that makes any difference playing mainly FPS titles.

The 7800xt is about 55% faster on average then your 3060ti at1440p which will give you the biggest performance boost but costat double the 5800x3d.

The 5800x3d will probably give you about 20% performance boost depending on game if you stick with the 3060ti but can rise to 40% with a top end GPU

Skip to 23 game average and also check games you pkay

The 5800X3D will primarily improve your 1% lows and thus your average fps.

Run your favourite games with MSI Afterburner and see how often you are CPU-limited. Do note that you should look at per-core usage, not overall CPU usage. My guesstimate is that the answer will be 'not often', and so the 7800 XT will be the better upgrade for you.

I would change GPU first and look for 2nd hand 5800x3d - they will be more common and cheaper when zen5 comes out since many owners of 5800x3d decided to skip ryzen 7xxx
