GFX Card Problem

Currently my GFX card is a Gainward 6800GT 256MB, however recently the fan has been humming louder and causing irregular noises. So instead of the normal fan noise you can hear it speeding slowing down like something is resisting against it. It only has happened a few times but recently does it more. It’s not any other fan as I can also clear see one of the GFX fans slightly shaking when the problem happens. So I took the GFX card out and tried to fix it. Managed to take the out plate off, but the fan is a single unit so hard to fix or replace.

My question is also, if you think there is no hope what GFX card do you recommend? At the moment I do not want a massive upgrade, so any AGP card which is as good as my current one will do for the time being. Really I just need something to keep the computer going till I upgrade in the New Year when quad cores and vista are released. Is it worth getting a new one? I mean the only reason I did post this today as it seemed the fan was making a lot more noise and could have sworn it was scraping the metal of the card. At the moment its ok, but that could change.

Seen some nice ones on OCUK, so if you can give more some of your opinions it would be appreciated; only looking at a card around £180-£230.

Current card is as I said a 256mb, Nvidia 6800GT Core Clock 350mhz / Memory Clock 1000mhz. So equal or more than this is what I want.

Many thanks,

For £230 you could make the move to PCI-E and get the x1800 XT, and a PCI-E motherboard to go with it for the same price, much faster than any AGP card, and a helluva lot cheaper, then when it comes to upgrade again you only need to change the card as yer CPU, Ram etc... can just drop straight into a PCI-E board, so you don't need to upgrade those, just the mobo, and card as said, i would as AGP cards are far to expensive now, and much chepaer PCI-E ones blow em away, you could even get a £256 x1900 XT in PCI-E for about £170 which is a stonking card, and something like an AS Rock board for £50 odd. :)

7600 GT would be a bit faster but at £140 it is over-priced imo, especially when superior cards like X1800 XT are available for less on PCI-E (and when the PCI-E 7600 GT is almost half the price).
