Upgrading a Dell Dimension E520 for someone :o

Currently it has a GeForce 7300LE card that sucks really badly. I told them not to expect too much upgrading this Dell as there is only so much that can be achieved without changing PSU/Motherboard etc.

Anyway, the current card seems to draw power directly from the Motherboard (no external power to psu needed), so where may I find a list of Graphic cards that do not require power directly to the psu? Obviously the graphics cards are not going to be top end (i think the psu is only 305w anyway :o)

A list would be great so I could look through them and advise which card would be most suitable.

Cheers :)

What sort of purpose is it gonna be used for? Just general web-browing, media/HD movies playback, or expecting to be able to do some gaming as well?

If it's just for general usage, then the 6450 would do, but if want to be able to do some gaming as well, the 6670 would be the one to go for. It's max power consumption is only up to 58W, and speed/performance wise, it is around on par with a 8800GT/9800GT...but with the bonus of dx11 support.

+1 for 6450, £10 cheaper than a non-psu 9800GT, even par power (9800GT may edge it?) plus as mentioned DX11 support.

For the nvidia side of things with DX11, it looks like a GT430 priced at ~£50 looks to be a more direct contender to the 6450.

Edit: whats your budget?

No, it is the 6670 that's on par with the 9800GT, not the 6450 (which is mainly for general usage and media playbacks...but should still handle some source games at 1680 res or lower).

They want it upgrading to be able to play some of the latest games at medium-high settings, and older games at high settings. As well as general use such as watching movies etc.

Cheers for the reccomendations so far everyone will check them cards out :)
