When card is put in mobo and then start system up the display doesn't detect anything. When taken out and started up it (Windows) displays fine. Gone through BIOS everything seems fine...

Can't install the drivers without the card in, yet can't go about installing the drivers when the card is actually in. - powers up fine, just doesn't display for some reason.

Card: GTX 970 Gigabyte G1
Mobo: Asus Maximus Hero VII
My PSU can power it easily: 850W Cooler Master SilentPro

Any suggestions?
 
I believe it's set to auto - what option am I looking for? Just to make sure I get the right one...

What setting am I looking for in the BIOS?

Won't be able to get back to anyone until gone 6 as I don't get back from work until then lol. I'll be getting in touch with Gigabyte too if it persists into the weekend.

I'm in no real rush to have it fully up and running as I'm waiting for my desk to be made, but it would be nice to know it's fully functional :)
 
PCI cables to what? If you're referring to SSD & HDD & Disc Drive then yes they were all connected and running properly.

Might be worth mentioning:

I've got a wireless card in a PCI-E which was functioning fine, so it's looking extremely likely to be just a setting I need to change on the BIOS -_-

To your GPU of course :)

Being a noob is a voyage of discovery. Embrace it :D The most fun I had with PC's was when I was a noob and trying all sorts of stuff with cooling etc.

Oh, and I've forgotton where the setting to enable/disable the igpu is :o It's been a long time since I used it and I don't have an igpu anymore with x79...
 
going over so many videos/searches lol, it's fun, but only because I know the system isn't buggered! And it would appear I actually did everything correct (somewhat!).

Another things that's got me scratching my head actually is that in BIOS the mobo is reading my RAM @1333MHz when it's 2133MHz lol... that's the only thing that doesn't seem right to me!

Oh, yeah sorry - yeah using an 8-pin and a 6 + 2 pin straight from my PSU.
Doesn't seem to matter where I've got the display cable connected - mobo or gfx - it won't display anything :(

If you have your GPU installed, and you have your display cable in the MOBO display port, do you get screen display?

As you are a noob (not a slur by any means), have you plugged into MOBO display port instead of the GPU by mistake?
 
(I'm not at home at the moment) MoBo is the one I've kept to. But I've also rr'd with the HDMI in the gfx card too, both to no avail :(

It needs to be the one on the GPU. You only plug in to the MoBo when you have no GPU installed.

So, plug in to GPU and try again. I've got a feeling you've been plugged in to the MoBo when your GPU is installed. This will result in a blank screen, because the display is being output via the GPU. Any time you unplug and re-plug, you will probably have to reboot. If you have no display, you will have to hard reset (usually holding your power button will switch off, and then switch back on.

To recap:
  • Power down PC.
  • Make sure GPU is installed properly.
  • Make sure display cable is plugged in to the GPU.
  • Power on.
If you have a blank screen, then it looks like a BIOS problem, so follow these steps.

  • Power down.
  • Uninstall GPU.
  • Plug display cable into MoBo
  • Power up.
  • Post back and tell us what you've got.

Thanks for the help String, I know it's a Friday so don't expect you to be in at any 'sociable' time :) but I'll continue this over the weekend regardless.

I was going to take my card to my friend and put it in his system (he has an MSI 970) to 'prove' it's not the card. Was also recommended a suggestion by another friend basically taking my SSD or HDD and installing the GFX drivers onto it via said friends computer and then try back in my system.

For now I'll keep it simple and look at the display cables though :p

I don't know how I never managed to try that... but meh, she lives! :D
