gfx upgrade time!! help

OP grab your friends 290 and see how you get on before making anymore decisions.

This, if the noise becomes an issue you can always sell it on and buy another later, prices are likely to go down rather than up.

Like I said earlier with a bit of fan profile tweaking they are not too bad, especially if you wear a headset. Aftermarket coolers are also an option with the £159.99 you save by not buying the B Grade 290 :)

is the gtx 780 faster then the 290 then. as I thought the 290 beats the 780 like mostly and because of the price range?

The two card is more or less on par with one another, but 290's advantage is that is is much cheaper than the GTX780, and has a wider memory bus and 1GB more vram.

But £100 for 2nd hand 290 from someone you can trust (and could help with rma if ever needed) is no-brainer really.

my friend just told me hes used it for mining or something for about a month can that damage the gfx card is it safe im not sure about what this mining thing is?

Will be fine, by design the R290 throttles performance to maintain safe temp levels, plus he probably under-volted it to save running costs. A card having been used for mining is something that will terrify the uneducated but in reality the difference between that and gaming use is minimal it's just the hours of operation that is higher but if it's only been used for a month it's not going to make a big difference.

It's not anything that should impact a purchase decision anyway, especially as the card will have years of warranty left anyway and as the guys a friend he will certainly help with that if it needs to be RMA'd.

You are offered a deal of the century,no need to worry about performance of the R9 290 cards. It should be a no brainer.

I can only go by experience. In games no difference in which cards you run.
Also In the same machine R9 290 Crossfire vs 780Ti Sli still no difference in games.

Single R9 290 and Single 780Ti same machine Edge goes to R9 290.Same in Crossfire and SLI.

A month of mining don't sound too bad, those cards are rated to run and 94 degrees anyway. You still got the warranty to cover you if anything goes wrong too like Unbersonic says.
