Need a little advice please guys.

C2D E6850 (does 3.6 if clocked)
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L
Radeon X800GT
4GB OCZ (4x1GB) PC2-6400C4
EMU0404
Corsair VX450 PSU
4 x 120mm fans
2 x HD
1 DVDRW

I want to upgrade my gfx as I am now running a Samsung 245B 24" TFT and the old X800GT is past it.

Is there a massive difference between these - 3850, 3870,8800GT or 9600GT
Does the 9600GT better the 8800GT and would the 8800GTS be a huge leap over all of them.

Will my Corsair VX450 manage to run any of them OK.

At the res of your Samsung an 8800GTS would probably be the best price/performance balance. If you could afford an 8800GTX then that would be better for the high resolution you have available.

Beyond that you begin to hit the high end X2/GX2 options but the cheapest of those are around another £100 or so extra.

Its a pity those GTX's at £187 have now gone out, as that would have been the best card, so now they've gone, id go for the 8800 GTS 512mb, cracking card, and now at an absolute steal of a price at £164. :)

Your PSU would handle any card fine also.

If you want a faster card though, and can afford it, then id say the 3870 X2, obviously not as fast as the 9800 GX2, but its cheaper, and also the GX2's are not worth buying now anyway, as theres a single 9900 GTX coming in July thats supposedly faster, and the new 9800 GTX is the exact same card as the 8800 GTS 512mb thats availabe for £158+, just its slightly higher clocked, and had its name changed to 9800 GTX, so if you buy an 8800 GTS 512mb, you will have a 9800 GTX, just windows, the drivers etc... will display the name as 8800 GTS 512mb instead (which is no biggie).

yeah *** gts would be best i reckon. your psu is only a 450w but is a very good brand in corsair and i reckon it should be ok. you will see a huge increase in gfx power for an x800gt wich if memory serves me correctly is one of the slower of the x800 range.

OK I know I'm pushing it now but what about the 8800GTX thats on special offer, do you think my PSU would cope. According to all the PSU calculators I can find, it should be OK.

Don't see why not.

Good PSU that... i ran a q6600 @ 3ghz and an overclocked 8800GTX on a 2 year old Tagan 580 watt PSU which probably had similar 12v rails.

I've seen GTX SLi setups running on the 620 watt version of your corsair so you should be ok.

In fact i was right, done a bit of research and my Tagan 580 had 20A on each of its two rails but as a combined 12v rail supplied only 32A.

Your Corsair 450 supplies 33A on its 12v rail so should be absolutely fine.

Enjoy the card if you get it... the GTX is a stonker!

Nice one, GTX became a cracking price just in time for you, excellent cards, and still up there as one of the best, will be perfect for 24" as well. :)
