Hey guys,

I bought Ghost 12 recently to backup a mates 98 machine. He wanted it backed up, but the objective was primarily to upgrade his hard drive: 4 – 80GB :)

Anyway, so far I’ve been unable to get anything to work! So I was wondering if there are any Ghost experts here that could help me out?

I’ve been using the ‘Copy my hard drive’ feature – the drives have copied fine, but neither has been able to boot…

The 98 drive I copied came up straight away with an ‘invalid system disk’ error and then I tried to copy my Mum’s XP Pro drive – that booted, but only as far as the Windows screen (Dark blue boarders, top/bottom and light blue middle with Windows logo) the mouse moved, but apart form that the system was frozen. I left it for over 40 minutes…

So where am I going wrong? I thought this whole process was really easy – I’m glad I’m not dependant on these ‘backups’ in the event of a disaster, I backup all my important info manually ;)

I was thinking of maybe trying an older version/s, my best friend has very kindly offered to let me borrow the two versions he use most frequently; v8 and 10.

I thought I’d ask here first any, after all I have just spent £40 on this software :(

Cheers,

SW.

Edit: Also, what options should I be selecting?

You should be setting the drive to active to allow it to boot from and copy the MBR. The rest of the options are pretty logical.

Yep - selected both those options :(

I think I'm going to take my mates offer and rollback a copule of versions :p

If what I suggested in your other thread didn't work then maybe its a hardware limitation - what sort of kit does the windows 98 machine have as older motherboards might have have a bios limit of 8GB or 32GB (firgures might be off as this is 9 years ago now).

Also is it win 98SE as that shouldn't have problems seeing and copeing with an 80gb drive however the original release of win 98 might do. You might also have to do a bit of patching to get it to work though.

No idea on the XP problem though as what I suggested the other day always worked for me when I've had to upgrade drives.

Yeah sorry, thanks for your help mate ;)

I'm currently in the process of using Acronis True Image 9 - I completely forgot all about it? I got it free with some ink/paper I bought from a popular online consumables retailer :)

I seem to remember I did something similar with it before and it worked a treat!

I'm currently experimenting with a working XP partition... So, fingers crossed.
