Ghostbusters Reboot

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this. If this travesty is supposed to be a 'reboot', then why are there so many references to the original movie?

Saw the ad for this on the telly the other day, if the purpose was to make people not want to watch it then they've succeeded.

Wow, that looks bad. Now they're using the proton packs to beat up ghosts?! Oh dear, oh dear.

Yup, in the originals they trapped the ghosts, now apparently punching them and lassoing them to use as bowling balls is the current trend to deal with them.

Makes no sense, they make a song and dance about this being a different universe but reference the original constantly.

Dan Aykroyd leering over the movie just because its lining his pockets. And holy **** does Murray look old, he's 65, Ernie Hudson is 70 and looks easily 20 years younger than him.

Not really, but basically: According to Sony and the 'stars' of the film, the reason people don't like the look of this is because they're misogynistic basement dwellers and they've also gone as far as selectively deleting negative comments from places like youtube in order to try and make it look like public opinion isn't what it is.

It has nothing to do with the film looking like poo apparently.

That's very basically it.

Ah ha. Right must get back to my misogynistic ways - now where's the wife till I give her a good thrashing just for good measure. :p

Hmm...

"it may be but from what I've seen no one is buying it. Went to go see the new Independence Day they played the trailer for the new film and I kid you not the whole theatre booed it"

"Really? Haha oh wow that's pretty telling. I myself have been opposed to the film (and Sony) ever since McCarthy and all those journalists attacked James Rolfe over what he said. Pretty pathetic if you ask me"

"I've not been a fan since the first trailer as it didn't look funny at all and I don't think any of the cast is funny nothing to do with them all being women no problem with that at all. McCarthy also bashing fans who had voiced their dislike of what they had see was really the icing on the cake that this movie will bomb I think"

Guy seen it and released his review before everyone else who signed the embargo can i.e the day it's out here and we know how well that goes with games with same day reviews

There's loads of crap reboots and bad sequels to good films - so why is this one such an issue?

They are all an issue, but if you were there at the time, you would remember how big, successful, and downright loved Ghostbusters was at the time. A new movie deserved a lot more.

The sequel wasn't that good so why no hysteria about that?

Sequel was okay, but unsurprisingly couldn't reach the heights of the first film. It was a proper sequel with the same cast, not a Hollywood reboot where a load of beancounters decided they knew better than the original writers.

This new film just looks awful in every way. Have you watched the review from post 388, or read about all the Sony shenanigans around this film? There's plenty of reasons to discourage this sort of behaviour and the making of this kind of movie from the movie companies. The bar is already low enough, we should not be encouraging the beancounters to lower it further.

Maybe it's something to do with that whole "if you don't like it, you're a misogynist" line they're trying to push, just admitting it's not for everyone would be fine, publically insulting anyone who dares say they don't like the look of the film is another.

JJ Abrams get's pushed with the "It's not Star Trek" question and responds
"The goal [with 'Star Trek Into Darkness'] was to make a movie for moviegoers, not just for 'Star Trek' fans. So if you've never seen 'Star Trek' before, you can still see it."

Michael Bay when pushed on Transformers
"They love to hate, and I don’t care; let them hate. They’re still going to see the movie!"

Paul Fieg's reaction:
"It’s pure misogyny, it’s a non-starter to me, You’re somebody I don’t even want to deal with.'”
"Oh my God. Some of the most vile, misogynistic sh**s I’ve ever seen in my life”

And that's before we get into other people involved reactions and statements. Whudda thunk such accusations would galvanise people's views?

Good grief he has an irritating voice.

He's awfully hyper.

The comments on the video are strangely amusing. The funny thing is the comments sound like this forum and many others that everywhere looks the same with the same opinions.
