Gibbo - Any Tagan Quad SLi Approved 900-1100W ATX2.0 PSU Available?

Gibbo, I've contacted Tagan about my supply, I had to do a power switch mod to get it to work properly. This problem also exists in the PCP&P units with certain motherboards. It's the startup overcurrent protection that trips, as the motherboard is asking for current that's out of spec with the psu compliance.

Edit: upon further testing I've found that the issues remains despite the pc case power switch 'mod'. There is indeed a fault with these psu's atm. I will have to go for a rma with Tagan, hopefully they can get it sorted, I still like the psu (when it works).

I'm not getting any of the ripple distortion onscreen with my ATI 1900's with this supply, I guess the shielded cables do help.

580W will easily handle dual core and crossfire and some overclocking, provided you've not got dozens of hard disks and optical drives! people are truly mad thinking they need like 1kw!

1kw isnt required but you DO require over 580w ( and more importantly most of the 580w supplies are a little weak in the vga lines to power two amp hungry cards like the X1900's

Hi there

Tagan 900W was a faulty batch so nobody has working ones....

Tagan 1100W we have 1-2 units which are for system builds only!

Thank you Gibbo - any idea when you might be getting another batch of either type?

Hi Frank,

I'll let you know what Tagan tech dept says about a possible revision. With my system, if I power down for say longer than 6 seconds, the motherboard/psu will not switch on for at least half an hour.

This supply has more sata connectors than you could ever use in a home system. You need quite a bit of spare room in your case to tuck all the spare cables away.

Overall I do like the supply, it's very quiet, uses the 2 80mm fans in a push pull configuration, so no hot air is directed into your case.

The good thing is if you're running Crossfire and have been experiencing the background interference pattern (mainly noticable on dark colours), this supply seems to fix it, due to the shielding of the PCIE cables. You can also devote an entire 18a rail to each GPU, so there should be no lock ups under load (as I noticed with the Seasonic on a heavily loaded 1900 Crossfire system).

Thank you , would be interested to hear

oc'ed crossfires are more hungry than sli - and even nvidia recommend a bigger supply than 580w I believe

i have the most power hungry sli card as wel the xfx ee 490/1300 and running watercooling 1 raptor 1 storage hdd loads of uvs loads of fans so the sum power and i can still overclock my processor

good news is that I recieved a tlephone call from the Tagan rma dept in this country (Nanopoint), they confirmed exactly what Gibbo had said, the first batch had an over haired durrent protection circuit. They are arranging a swap out for me on Monday. I'm very happy with every other aspect of the supply, hopefully this new batch will perform better.

Just bought my 900w tagan from ocuk and im having exactly the same problem. PSU keeps shutting down for 30 minutes. Contacted tagan and waiting for reply.
Im suprised the faulty batch is still around though.

yes I had the probs, I think you need nanopoint as they're the service for Tagan in the UK. They are first class and will ship a replacement very quickly, they replaced mine..

Did you have to send the faulty PSU off or did they collect it?
Did you get refered to them through tagan or did you contact them directly?

Tagan told me to contact Nanopoint, so you can go ahead without a referral or any special number. They have an online rma form, fill that out (you'll need your serial number etc), service is extremeley fast. They use Amtrack, you won't have to send the unit yourself, they will arrange a 'swap-out'.

Thanks very much for your help raja , contactacted nanopoint and got a replacement within 2 days. Unfortunatly i still have the same problems. Constantly keeps shutting down and i have to wait an hour for it to start again, it doesn't do it as much since i dissconnected the case switch and do it on the mobo but thats not ideal.
What are the chances that ocuk will swap it for another PSU now its been used and does anyone have any recomendations on what i should get?
