Gibbo: This, this is what you need.

Gonna test drive M3 DCT, heard a lot of good things, so time to see what I think to it, its got the noise and the V8, see how the rest stacks up. :)

M3 is a stunning car to be in.

I've only been a passenger a few times but everything about it was sensational. Plus the White with Carbon roof looks the business!

Why do Porsche interiors always look like 1990s Mazdas.

I think it's more to do with the immensely crap photography quality, quite how they saw them and thought "yep, that will sell" is a mystery :p

If I was selling a £45k car I'd damn well make sure the sale images are of the highest standard!

Odds are anyone who buys this knows exactly what they are getting into and have owned a lesser model Porsche in the past.

The car is selling purely based on what it is and how good an example of that particular model it is, this is not the sort of vehical that Joe public turns up to buy based on photos only.

Don't like the 993 as much and too old.

Its gonna be one of following:-

M3 DCT - V8 and DCT (35-42k) (2009-2010 car)
996 TT X50 / S - Old but quick (30-40k) (2003-2005 car)
997 C2S Aerokit (TT at one bloody huge push) - Looks stunning (30-35k) (2004-2007 car)
Z06 - V8 all out power (35-40k) (2005-2006 car)
R35 GTR - Best performing road car (38-45K) (2009-2010 car)

AMV8 - Still huge favourite simply for looks and sound, but reliability and lack of performance bit of a killer. :( (35-40K)

I'd still opt for the Z06 out of that list, it's got just about everything going for it.

- Looks
- Performance
- Exclusivity
- Running Costs

I'd love a Z06 but I don't think I would run a LHD car in the UK.

From your list I'd choose, in this order:

997 Turbo (if you could afford it, but not if it makes things uncomfortable)
996 x50 /S
GTR
AMV8
Z06 (would be higher but LHD ruins it for me)
M3

The 997 turbo is just epic, with modern looks and huge performance. Slap a private plate on there and you could be in a 2010 model.

The M3 at the bottom of the list, because it's just too ordinary in this company. I prefer the GTR because it has huge road presence.

Edit -

No scratch all those suggestions. You need the letters "GT2" and "580bhp" in your life. For £43k

He owned 2 LDH Mustangs and didn't have any issues with them. The Z06 is wider and much lower which does worry him though in smaller A roads I think he said.

That list I'd be going for the Porsche, no idea which one as the model range confuses me though :(

From what i know he could change his way into work easily enough, fair enough we have lots of narrow lanes in Cheshire but the 'normal' winding country roads are fine and imho provide ample entertainment at the right time of day.

Win the lottery this weekend and i'll be buying that exact one.

WANTED: 997 GT3

There still a good wedge above his budget though.

Seriously, GT2.

911 Turbo is VERY nice.

GT2 is pant wetting material.

and in 996 form a real handful. Its fun the first time you drive it but you wouldnt be able to go giving it 100 % on the B roads for fear of killing yourself in a huge fireball.
