MSI 970 Gaming
Overclock? None. Card is more than quick enough. So I prefer low temps and low noise.
Crap ASIC quality on mine, both 980 reference, one Inno3D one Zotac (sold as OcUK).
64.5% and 68.1%
1400 core (1450 or so boost)
8000 vRAM
Volts: default
Power limit: 180% via modded bios.
Temps: hotter card can hit 89 degrees with about 75% fan and 91 degree temp target after a long session.
Needs more water cooling!
So if we ignore coolers for a moment... If you were going to watercool from day one, which card (either 970 or 980) would you go for. Please take warranty into account
180% for 1450 boost? Seems excessive
You're right, it doesn't need to be that high. It never uses that much.
But I know that it's not going to power throttle
Asus Strix 970
ASIC: 77.3%
1512mhz core at stock volts (max power limit)
The card usually runs between 68-71c but when overclocked it can get up to 74-75c if it stays really close to max power limit for a bit longer. Don't know why it runs that hot, maybe it's my case and/or mediocre cable management. Still a nice GPU though.
