One of my best mates and his girlfriend have just had a wee baby boy and I'd like to get them something to congratulate them. I have seen a load of these "New Baby gift boxes" but they seem to be pretty expensive for what is contained within them.

Can anyone suggest something a bit different? I don't want to get them something that someone else will already have gotten but I also don't want to get something that is of no use to them if you know what I mean.

Budget is up to about 50 quid if that will cover it.

Isn't it scary when all your mates begin to settle down with wives and kids?

New parents gets lots of stuff from everyone. best thing is to get stuff tehy will grow into. Say 6months - 1 year. be it clothes or toys.

Or something sentimental. Liek an engraved photo frame. With a special picture in it.

A set of earplugs?

Just the one set so they can alternate who gets to use them each night, making looking after him much easier on both of them. :)

As a proper gift, not a clue. :p

And Baby Makes Three: The Six-Step Plan for Preserving Marital Intimacy and Rekindling Romance After Baby Arrives (Hardcover)

Available from all good book stores :D

Electric steam steriliser if they don't already have one or a photo album for all the pictures they'll take if they do :)

Really good idea this.

Vouchers,
Clothes,
baby Album (places to keep their first lock of hair, pictures, first tooth, stuff like that).

Really, you won't be buying for the baby, the first 6 months especially they don't actually do much other than eat, sleep, cry, and poo :p You'll be buying for the parents to make their lives easier, or for sentimental value.

"Too slow, chicken marengo! Too slow for this cat."

:p

I know, I didn't bother editing it because I explained it. It's actually what a couple I know do, so they can each get a good night's sleep during the week. :)

What about a nice bottle of wine for his 18th birthday.

Really quite like that idea, would have to be a decent bottle though, wouldn't want a crap one to be kept for 18 years. :p
