I'm after a new Gigabit switch.

Minimum of 8 ports, 16 preferred.

Port based VLAN would be very useful, as would Jumbo Frame support.

I don’t want to be spending much over £100. I’d be happy track something down second hand if necessary.

Any suggestions?

I have a linksys SPS 2024 managed gigabit switch, which is very good. Managed to get it for just over £100 from a popular online auction site... :)

EDIT: it has 24 ports, so slightly surplus to your requirements but the more the merrier I spose!

I must say that Linksys hadn't come to mind for this.

More ports wouldn't be a problem as long as they didn't add significantly to the power consumption. If unused ports could be disabled (manually or automatically) that would probably be okay.

I have been using it since the end of last year and it has served me brilliantly. it also has2 mini GBIC fiber ports for when you decide to go completely home network overkill like me ;)

Can't comment on the power consumption front though as this isn't one of my concerns.
