Edit: nevermind, just re-read the original post. But like Streeteh said below, its possibly the paste thats really stiff.

You could try running the card for a while in a game, then taking it out and removing the cooler, the heat should hopefully loosen it up a bit.

Whats wrong with the original cooler...:confused: If it an't broke don't fix it.

I brought the accelero s1 with this expexting the defult 8800 cooler would be a waste to have it laying around.

I second that. That will almost definately soften up the compound enabling you to prise it off gently.
