Does this motherboard have a light to show if power is going to it or not?

Just bought parts and had it put together by a friend, but we're having problems. The switch at the back has a light on, but we can't see anything on the motherboard, and can't even see an LED that's turned off !

Has anyone else ever had any issues with it?

And also might sound like a daft question, but my power supply plug to the motherboard is missing a pin within one of the 24 pin slots - could this prevent anything from turning on ?

We built it last night, and had one or two other people look at it, and just can't fathom out why it's not working.

Any ideas / suggestions would be amazing !

Cheers,

Dan

Can you list the parts please?

Try a clearCMOS.

Try using a single stick of RAM in all the slots.

Are you sure the case power button is connected correctly? you can use a screw driver to short the two pins it connects to on the motherboard.

If you have a GFX card that needs external power from the PSU, have you done this?

Try building the basic parts needed outside of the PC case.

IS the CPU fan trying to spin at all?

'If you have a GFX card that needs external power from the PSU, have you done this?

IS the CPU fan trying to spin at all?'

I have done the first suggestion, the second suggestion is my next port of call, and no the CPU fan is not trying to spin at all.

And i'm unsure about the case power button, like i say i'm getting a light at the back of the pc for the main switch, but absolutely nothing elsewhere. Should i try building outside first or shorting ?

Thanks so much for the replies.

Cheers,

Dan.

Try shorting the two power pins quickly (to replicate the pressing of the cases power button)

You dont need the drives connected to get the BIOS to boot up and display.

You can obviously use a single RAM stick and try it in each slot (then try another RAM stick and repeat this)

Tried everything you recommended and absolutely nothing has happened. Power is going to the Psu but nothing else, even shorting the power button pins did nothing. Any ideas ?

What revision of the Gigabyte motherboard is it and what BIOS does it have?

Hopefully you'll find both of these on a sicker somewhere. Check the Gigabyte site, select the correct motherboard and revision and look at the CPU support list. It will tell you what BIOS version is required for that CPU.

I've had a quick look and came up with the following:
Rev1.0/1.1 - FX-8150 not listed
Rev1.2 - FX-8150 not listed
Rev1.3 - FX-8150 not listed
Rev1.4 - F10 bios, looks like the one it ships with
Rev3 - - FB bios, looks like the one it ships with

"The boards without VRM cooling (970A-D3 rev 1.0/1.1/1.2, 970A-DS3) have NOT been updated for 125W 8-core Vishera FX processors."

edit - not that the FX8150 is a Vishera processor, but should help you identify which revision you have if you can't find the sticker.

I can't see any support listed for any 125W 8 core chips on the older 970A-D3 rev 1.0/1.1/1.2 board.

Hi guys - i managed to get everything sorted (Grandads a whizz at these things :P )

But just thought i'd say thanks so much for making the effort and trying to sort this for me !! Very kind of yous, it's hugely appreciated.

Cheers,

Dan

At the risk of sounding like a numpty, but putting ALL blame onto the guy who built it up for me..

The mobo was screwed straight into the case with no spacers so it was shorting..

Que red face..
