Hello guys, I have a niggling issue with this board and am looking for some advice if possible :)

Built a system last week with the following:

Conroe E6400
Gigabyte DS3 (Shipped with F6 BIOS)
2GB GeiL 6400
HIS IceQ x1900 XT
X-FI xtrememusic
Seasonic S12 600W

When I first got this all up and running I noticed in CPU-Z that the clock speeds were running at 133x8 (or a whopping 1.06GHz)

First question, should it not be 266 by default??

I'm able to adjust the clock speeds in the BIOS on startup however sometimes these will not save to the CMOS, it'll disable my CPU settings and PCI-E frequency setting and revert back to 133x8 upon reboot

Usually when booting the system after it has been powered off for a sustained period of time, again it'll revert to 133x8

I'm not really sure how to address this issue with a view to fixing it, can anyone help?

I've updated to the latest BIOS (F7) but it hasn't solved anything unfortunately

Hey thanks, yeah I think that was going to be my next port of call - however after searching these forums I found a few conflicting pieces of advice e.g.

"Try a full CMOS reset + remove battery + PSu power connector for 24 hrs"

"Try completely discharging the board (press power on while board is connected to PSU but PSU is switched off), remove battery and move CMOS pin for a minute or more then put it all back."

So, should I go for a few minutes or 24 hours? :)

A few minutes has allways worked for me , AS long you know board +psu has been dischanged for any power you will be fine. Can not see any returns dept servicing repairs waiting 24Hrs evertime. LOL :D

well did the full cmos reset, booted system - still 1.06GHz :D

nightmare

Have tweaked the BIOS again to set a steady cpu speed & pci-e freq, hopefully it'll stick this time

No doubt I'll find out the next time I do a cold boot

Yep cheers, consulted that guide + the 'official ds3 owners' thread when I built the rig

They were among the first things that were disabled

I'll keep my eye on it, hoping the latest cmos save will stick this time round

If the issue's still there, I'll prob pick up a replacement battery - failing that will wait for the next BIOS version to be released

Well there's definitely something fishy going on here.

Got home from work - booted pc, all good it booted at 2.4GHz (had set it to 300x8 last night)

Switched pc off, came back a few hours later, switched power on and the system did not post, only the fans were spinning.

Reset and the system defaulted to 1.06GHz again

Any ideas anyone?? Thanks

Nope not yet, still on the existing one

I'll nip down to the supermarket tonight or tomorrow to get another lithium battery, to be honest I'm not sure if this will do the trick as when it reverts the system back to 133x8 all it does in the BIOS is disable the CPU Host Clock Control and changed the PCI Express Frequency to Auto

All other settings I've saved on that screen are unaffected e.g. vcore voltage, memory timings, memory voltage, MCH voltage, FSB voltage, System Memory Multiplier etc. etc.

If it still persists do you think there may be the possibility that this is CPU-related? Once I get up and running the system seems perfectly stable and temps are good however I'll try reseating the CPU & heatsink...

Or maybe this is some other harware conflict? I've read that the DS3's were not too keen on X-Fi's....

Someone probably already RMA'd that board for the same reason. Quite unusual to have F6 BIOS shipped woulodn't you say?

I've just had to RMA mine. It's been a total nightmare. Works fine, then suddenly won't boot. Fans spin, everything appears OK but nothing on screen. !00 tries later it boots up and runs perfectly.

No thanks. I'll be getting a refund for this POS.
