Gigabyte DS4 odd issues

Just installed the board and came across a few issues.

1. When I attach the 12v power for the pci-e slots to the board I am unable to boot. The psu just shutdowns (Enermax Galaxy 1000w) and beeps. According to the manual this means...Power supply abnormal, proctection circuit activated. Connector terminals are short-circuited.

Because this is not my main box I have just installed a cheap Leadteck 7100GS which has no pci-e connector on it. So when I don't plug in the 12v to the board, the system boots. Would that be right for it to fail to boot if the 12v on the board is not required but plugged in??

2. When the system posts, the case speaker goes nuts and according to the DS4 manual it could be either a DRAM or M/B error. The memory modules are 2 x 512MB Geil PC6400 4-4-4-12. I tried each module on its own in all 4 slots and both modules in changes the slots. The speak continues to go nuts, however on boot there are non error messages and the system boots fine in to windows.

Any idea what is going on there? Or could there actually be a fault with the board?

If you mean the molex for the pci-e slots on the board then no. System won't boot. Currently re-installing the OS and some memory test

On a side note if anyone purchaes this board and uses SCSI for the OS drive, you need the newest firmware else you'll not be able to set it as the boot device if you have ide/sata hdds too!
 
Small update. Machine still running fine though without the 12v plugged in to the board and still have speaker cable d/c. Running memtest over night to see if there are any errors.
 
I think that the whole DS4 is odd... use to like it now I think its a horrid thing... wouldnt bother getting it ever again

Another update for anyone who cares!

Ran the mem test for just over 18hrs solid and no errors what so ever. Also plugged back the internal speaker and its not silent as a lamb. So those things seem to of been sorted via the firmware update. However the 12v pci-e prob is still there.

I guess this will have to do. Other than that its quite a nice board, ut not quite as nice as my badaxe's
 
hi i just installed my ds4, i plugged in the 4 pin molex connector into the motherboard aswell as the 6 pin one for the card.

i wasnt sure if i needed both but it worked without any problems
 
I had the annoying speaker issue too although i had all the cables plugged in, couldnt understand why it did it even after resetting cmos back to defaults :confused: think it went away after i flashed the bios again.

Have to say im not over excited about the board tbh, dont like the raid/ahci - too slow at detecting the hdd's and as an added insult it seems to not like raptors much as their performance is about the same on this as a standard 7200 maxtor was on my dfi ultra so whats all that about then :confused: or maybe intel have a great cpu just the chipset's a bit pants.
 
Can't say I have noticed it detecting the sata drives slowly. I'll have to pay more attention :p . I will at some point test the board with a pci-e card that requires addition power and see if it makes a difference to plugging the 12v in.
 
The molex connector on the board is only for if your running Crossfire (2x cards), you don't need to plug a molex into it if only running 1x card. :)
