Gigabyte EX58-UD5 Lan Controller Issues

I just finished building a new i7 machine around a 920 and an EX58-UD5. The first windows install seemed to go fine, managed to install SP2 no problem. I came back to it the next morning and it had severe issues. Firstly it BSOD'd as soon as it got past the windows logon screen, then it stopped recognising the lan at all. Finally it started hard rebooting any time between the windows loading screen and just after logon.

I tried reinstalling windows to see if that was the issue, it appears not to be as the fresh windows install has at no point picked up the LAN controller. I have installed the latest drivers direct from the Gigabyte site and tried the ones on the install DVD all to no avail.

Is there anything else I should try or am I going to have to RMA this?

Spec:
i7 920
OCZ 6GB (3X2GB) DDR3 1333MHz/PC3-10666 Gold XTC Triple Channel
BFG GTX295
Corsair TX 750W

PS: I don't know if it's relevant but the board only recognises the ram at 1066Mhz, if I manually set the multiplier to push it to 1333 the whole lot BSOD's instantly.

Also, I now have windows booting apparently fine and running ok, but the sound drivers will not install and the LAN controller is still not being recognised.

Edit: I also tried upgrading to the latest bios (F5G - according to http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/gigabyte-latest-bios-28441/) with no change.

Update: Found this. It works but it isn't actually a fix so if anyone has any better ideas/theories I would greatly appreciate them as a brand new, barely functioning system is not my idea of money well spent :(.
 
Update 2: Computer now reliably boots with LAN enabled by draining power and booting as soon as psu is turned on but now BSOD's after log on to windows.

Could really do with some help please.
 
Send it back. It sounds like a serious hardware issue and the quicker you send it back the better for all concerned. Well worth knowing about this though, just a shame Gigabyte decided to alpha-test the product on paying customers.
 
I concluded the same in the end, it's being collected for a full refund tomorrow.

It's just a shame that the board is about as stable as a pensioner with a hip replacement made of jelly.
 
Its the LAN drivers. Had the same issue with mine. The ones on the Windows update site are wrong but it installs it anyway & overwrites them. Use the ones on the DVD thats came with the mobo.
 
I have the same board and I can confirm that the lan drivers on the windows update dont work. Instal the ones on the cd that came with the board and you be fine.

btw its a great mobo. My first gigabyte from several asus
 
It is a great mobo. Did exactly what I wanted it to...

...until it got stuck in a reboot loop, which required a replacement. Then the replacement got stuck at checking the memory, again, requiring replacement. :(

Going to try a P6T Deluxe next and hope for better luck
 
This is a bit of an old thread now... I am currently awaiting a refund after RMA'ing the board.

It was definitely not anything to do with the drivers because it was an issue wit the LAN actually initialising on boot. If the power was not drained before the board was booted not even the BIOS would detect the LAN properly (LAN cable test feature). Yes, I know that the windows update drivers broke it because when I managed to get the LAN to initialise they would fail with those drivers installed.

I did try various other solutions, including live discs of some linux distros etc and the problem was most definitely hardware related. Thanks for the new comments but there is definitely a problem with the board...
