hi all,
i have read some reviews on this cooler and they all say its a good cooler i was just wondering if anyone has had any problems with it IE mounting it to athlon 64s as i have seen the mounting bracket is flimsy and what are temps like on overclocked rigs

TYIA

I've got one cooling my [email protected] and it sits at 28-30 idle, during my 12 hour prime run it peaked at 40'c and during normal gaming sessions it hits 34/35'c, thats with the fan at its slowest setting aswell :)
As for fitting I didn't have to much of a problem and that was with the motherboard in place in the case. If it was out on the removable tray it would be a very easy.

Hi, as you may or may not know, I got one of these today. I can't say I am having such great results as yourself. I'm using the fan on a 2800 XP as well.

What's the secret?

cheers m8 as u have the same processor as me and the same clock it looks good, so im going to by one tommorow hope i achive the same temps as u

what fan settings you got it at? And what temps you getting?

Actually, I just replaced the heatsinks paste with the stuff that came with it (instead of the Arctic Silver 5) and it's working better. Getting about 34 degrees at low fan setting in idle.

Thats good for an xp as they throw out a lot of heat, my xp3200 sat at 36'c at idle with the fan at the slowest settings.

just a note on the arctic silver, I'm sure it doesn't work properly until its ran for a couple of days running full cycles - on for a while off for a while ect.

No probs hope you get the same results, one thing though make sure to get the pro version as shown on this site, as it comes with a fan controller, the standard one doesn't

Thanks dale1uk,

I'll remember what you said about the Arctic Silver 5, I was getting paranoid there.

Only thing is with this new heatsink is that there's no space at the back of my case for my 80mm fan. My case temperature is 30 degrees just now though so I guess that's not bad (is it bad, tell me, is it)

hmmm although a case temp of 30 is nothing to be worried about the lack of exhaust fan isn't the best. Seems strange that the g-power sits that far across to the left, what board do you have??
You could always modify the top of your case like I have with an 80mm hole saw to fit a top fan and use that as an exhaust??

top notch cooler. i used it on my xp-m cpu and now im on s939 and my opteron is using the same cooler.

with 2920mhz clock speed at 1.375v i peak at 48c in snm after a long 5 hour run at full load.

but the big typoon is the same price as this cooler. if you can find the big typhoon around anywhere.

but the g-power is far easier to fit.

My board is an Abit-K7-Max2: See Pic

I don't suppose it's possible to cut a hole in the side of the case (it's see through plastic) and stick a fan there? ;)

you could or you could always mount the fan on the outside of the case at the back and have it sucking out :D
