Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 problem

Hello everyone, always hate for my first post on a forum to be a problem one but I just ordered a new rig off Overclockers and am having a really frustrating problem. After viewing other posts and seeing how helpful the community here is I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask for help.

Here is my problem, I ordered the following parts:

- Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping
- Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 Intel X58
- Antec TruePower New Modular 650W
- Coolermaster Storm 'Scout' Gaming Case
- Patriot Viper 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800
- Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB

(using spare parts as filler for the mo gpu is a 1950xtx etc)
- Akasa AK-967 Nero Direct Contact Heatpipe CPU Cooler
- Sony Optiarc AD-7240S 24x DVD±RW SATA

I assembled everything to the best of my knowledge, I usually put together amd machines but I am not new to putting together rigs by any means. Went to turn it on and everything comes on for a second ( gpu,cpu and case fans, hdd, and optical drive) and more importantly the mobo itself.

but then it just turns off everything except for the motherboard. I have no idea why its doing this I have everything plugged in correctly.

Things I have tried include:

Switching and removing ram,gpu and even the motherboard from the case and trying to turn it on outside the case.
Weird thing is every 20th or so time I try and turn it on, it does come on and I have gotten to the bios twice. Updated to latest and no change. Tried increasing ram voltage to stated 1.65 volts and no change.

I hope the board or power supply isnt faults but i can't understand why it randomly boots sometimes, the one time I did get into the bios i checked pc health and it was 24c cpu and 27 mobo temp.

Just hoping there is something I have missed. :)

Tested a different power supply there and its stable turning on every time, is there any reason the Antec would not work here or is it simply a case of bad psu?
 
Sounds like just a bad 'un tbh - as long as you're running and stable now that's the main thing! That's a good setup you've got there and very similar to mine - you should get 4GHz without too much trouble.

Thankyou for your reply I think so too. I 1st thought the problem was the cpu or mobo but after putting an old psu in and seeing it turn on without problem I will rma the antec psu.

its a pity I dont have a psu to use in the mean time though because the on im using to test is out of a friends pc and couldn't possibly power this rig fully anyways.

I have the same motherboard and cpu, and mine comes on for a second then powers down on power up .. but then a couple of seconds later it all starts up as it should automatically. Luckily I havnt had any failed boot ups, so I havnt worried about this. maybe its the UD5 mobo's .. but since yours is ok now youve changed psu.....
