** GIGABYTE Masters of Overclocking Mini OC competition ** See inside for details!

Hi, I see that the rules state that 'Any CPU is allowed.', but am I right in assuming that the same CPU has to be used for all 3 tests? Or can I use a different CPU for overclocking and underclocking?

From reading earlier posts, I think you can use different CPUs for each part. Not an idea I'm keen on since in some way it turns thIs into a 'who has a greater range of CPUs' competition, but those are the rules.

Come on everyone.. as you can see, very few entries so far. You can enter as many times as you like so long as it the original results post that you enter from. ANY CPU can be used and on ANY board too so if you want to enter an old AMD system for your 3D Mark score but your OC on an 1156 then you can.

I am sure there are plenty of you out there with a gigabyte board so get benching! Overclocking for the 3D mark bench doesnt require a massive OC as its a target number to get on (in cases) moderate OCs as both SAM and 1 Day have so far proved.

Lets see what you can all do! :)

No?

Its a percentage based, so it may even be the other way around. If you have a CPU that's 4Ghz out of the box, getting it up to 5Ghz would only be a 25% overclock. My 1055T was 2.8Ghz out of the box, and is currently running at 3.85Ghz. That's a 37.5% overclock.

The only possible place it would matter may be the 3dmark CPU score, but those aren't exactly high. The challenge is to hit a certain number, not to get as high a score as possible.

only those with high end intel systems stand a chance ?

Really? Looking at the SB 5Ghz club thread, there's 52 people who managed to hit 5Ghz with their Sandybridge CPU. Only around 30 of those hit 5.1Ghz, which is a 50% overclock. Howevrer, those CPUs were only used to run superPi, so I doubt most of them are prime stable.

I'm currently sitting on a rather conservative 37.5% overclock because I want a stable system, there's more headroom from the CPU, and I certainly will be pushing it. I wouldn't want to run it faster than it is now for any long period of time, but like those 5Ghz people, its just for a screenshot and bragging rights.

Of course some CPUs are going to be better at this than others, but that's only part of the competition anyway, but I'm fairly confident I can hit 50% for long enough. Plus many of those people won't be running gigabyte mobos anyway, meaning they couldn't take part.

Very nice low clock result there Viz :)

But there is no way you are going to get close to the 3DMark06 number with a dual core. Not in a million years even at 5.9GHz with the i3-530.

iviv is spot on chaotic_uk you do not need top end for this contest. HiVizMans result is with entry level kit.

I don't suppose you know of any utility to drop the FSB past 200 do you 1Day?

Will crack on for max OC and 3D Mark later, OC wont be great as AMD chips are fairly limited and I might have to try a fresh install on another drive for 3D mark as I made a quick run this morning at my normal 4ghz oc, albeit with tighter timings as I noticed I'd got them on auto when I did the underclock and came out with a CPU score of about 3600 marks which seems too low. Will give it a shot later at 4.2ghz with 2400mhz CPU-NB and see what I can do.

Looks like I can't go any lower, theres no OC utility for AMD that'll let me drop the FSB, Bios wont allo

w it either. Does 3d mark prefer tight timings or higher frequency for the cpu tests?

Sorry for all the questions btw, I only normally do a couple of wprime runs to see how good an OC
is rather than benching I'd rather just use the system.

@Andrew Moore

Am I correct in thinking results will only be counted from forum members that have made purchases from OCUK
