Hi lads, i finally had a go at overclocking my newish rig but have one issue. My NB temp is 70 degrees C at idle and the led under it on the Mobo is red (and one below that is orange), can anyone tell me the max it should run at? or which is the bios setting to lower its volts?

Im running a FSB on 200 to give my I7 920 a 3ghz speed and it runs great at 1.15 volts and stays cool on my watercooling but as there is no cpu fan blowing air over the NB im worried im pushing it.

Im new to this lark but im sure i have left the NB volts to Auto but could do with some pointers.

Cheers lads

Leaving stuff on auto after about 170 BCLK often leads to problems. It's also unlikely that a 920 will be stable on a 200 [email protected].

Read that guide and start at 166 BCLK. Adjust voltages to suit. Starting at 200 means any small issues will hang the system.
166 will give you room to experiment which settings are affecting your temps so much.

what mobo is this?

I have the x58 UD3R and that sits idle high 40s has peaked 50s not so bad now I have sorted the cooling out.

They do run hot but if you have no fans blowing over the NB its an issue, something I have now sorted.

Push comes to shove you can buy those spot coolers which should help a little.

cheers lads. its stable at 200 @ 1.15v. has been for 3 days now anyway.

Its the UD3R aswell, good job i decided to have a go as the mobo had my 1600 memory running at 1066!

ive dropped the IOH and ICH volts from Auto to 1.1 and will see if this helps, so far its dropped the NB temp down to 65 degrees C. Now just to see if its stable like that.
