Gigabyte V Asus

There was a bloke from nvidia who popped into the 970 vram debate thread, but after about 3 posts he beat a hasty retreat that would have put the french army to shame.:D

try asus they might accept it

gigabyte accepted my ud5 repair and it was months out of warranty, but asus are different kettle of fish

they usually have repaired/refurb boards sitting on the shelf so they will send those out first, maybe a new board if they dont have any refurbs left

Yeah will do. All said and done if they'd have sent me out a new board as a replacement in the 1st place it would've lasted a lot longer. It's not like it's a cheapo board. It was their flagship board when originally purchased.

that's the trouble with asus boards, great provided they don't go wrong, then you get poor service

gigabyte can be a pain at times with bios's but it depends on the model of the board some are fine and some are annoying but atleast you get looked after with rma

yh s/n,they might ask you but just be honest and say bought off a friend or fleabay ect

it wont or shouldn't affect anything aslong as its in warranty

thats nice to know, thx G/wazza

I'll hopefully be able to compare An Asus Gene and my soc force side by side soon, it will be interesting to see the performance of both.
Currently on soc force i can validate at 6Ghz and i can get my dom plats upto 3260mhz, so will be interesting if the Gene can match it but more importantly to me how the benchmark numbers compare.

Used Gigabyte motherboards for years and never had a problem.

Also built several PC's for people using Gigabyte motherboards and no issues at all.

I always used Asus but after recommendations I opted for a Gigabyte Z77-D3H. I had endless problems with boot cycles and sticking in boot loops I RMA's the board after about 2 years and Overclokers replaced with a refurb no questions asked.

At this time I also purchased a new ASUS P8Z77-V LX2 for £20 off of ebay as left over stock. I didn't want to try the Gigabyte again so will sell it on. Been problem free ever since.

I recommend Asus to others and buy for personal use for z87 and z97. I have had both Gigabyte and Asus. Asus feels more refined to me. Although Ive never had a motherboard break, I hear Asus RMA turnaround can take a while and heard some nightmare stories.

Honestly I think both brands are great and just depends what on what features you are looking in which every price band.

I've had both motherboards and GPUs from both Gigabyte and Asus (still do). Both offer a great variety of boards at varying price points but the only time I've need support for a return was Gigabyte and they were fantastic. I wasn't the original buyer of a GPU and as long as I have proof of purchase they completed the RMA with minimal fuss and very fast turn around with great communication. So for me personally unless there was some very specific feature that wasn't available on a Gigabyte board I would go with them.

Current pc - motherboard and gpu with Gigabyte

My HTPC - Gigabyte motherboard

Dad's HTPC - Asus Board

Brothers PC - Asus board with Gigabyte GPU

This thread has caught my interest. Looking to pick up and X99 system, and I'm torn between two boards: A Gigabyte one and an Asus one. Makes interesting reading this thread!

So it sounds like board manufacturers are a crapshoot.

Does no one have anything to say about ASRock?

Asrock Z97 OC formula very very solid board. Infact my favorite Z97 board. Has held many WR for me and still does. Efficiency is good and RAM compatibility and OC is good. Bios is very easy to use and auto settings are sensible and work.

Asrock X99 OC formula again actually a very solid board. Efficient in 3d. the only things letting it down high CPU Cache overclocking due to lack of OC type Socket and the lack of high and tight memory. again which is basically down to no OC socket.

The Asrock boards I have tested and infact used a lot are great.

Do you buy all of yours?

No. For sure not. Had you put hundreds of hours into becoming worlds top overclocker and bought endless boards previously with these company's. Now offering them massive marketing opportunity and development too then maybe you would not pay for them either.

Oh and I design 8Pack systems ;)
