My new Asus board has a fault, so I'm being refunded for it (I got this from another retailer).

I'd like to get a Gigabyte board but I'm not sure which one. I want a very decent one, so over £100, but nothing over £200. Any recommendations?

I was looking at the OC model but I'm not sure if it's right for me. I don't want to overclock to higher than 4.6/4.7GHz or so.

OC is the best model in that price range. Its feature packed and will help you get your CPU to 4.6/4.7 with decent uncore and good memory overclock and performance.

Another board by Giga you may want to consider is the UD4H. I cant recommend this above the OC though but its a good board.

I think I'll go back to ATX, as I've had space issues with my current set up (e.g. my graphics card won't fit in the 16x PCI-E slot without pressing up on my cooler).

I liked the look of the OC model, and I'm happy to spend the same cost as the Gene. I was looking at the UD4H too, does it have any advantages? It's not much cheaper than the OC.

The USB ports keep failing for no apparent reason (it's not the Z87 bug, this is not in Windows 8 and can happen from boot up).

It also won't start a lot of the time. It just endlessly instantly powers off and restarts until I pull the plug. Once it does boot, it's absolutely fine. This could be a BIOS thing, but it's a brand new board so I don't want to take the risk.

Ah I haven't looked on there, I didn't know it was common. The USB thing sounds like a hardware problem though. Sometimes if I reinsert the device it'll work, sometimes it won't. Sometimes when I boot up it behaves like there's nothing in the port, sometimes it's fine.

I've been on 0711 since it came out, I don't see anything more recent than that?

I've still got the board, it's just been approved for refund but I haven't booked the collection yet. If the problem did go away with an update I'd keep it, but I'm kind of looking forward to the Gigabyte OC now :)

The restart thing in the ASUS boards is perfectly normal its extra Memory Training in this series of boards and it works dam well too if DDR 2720C7-10-7-21 TRFC 60 has anything to do with it!!!

The Gene is a great board as is the OC though so you wont be disappointed.

It's not just a couple of restarts though, it often won't start at all - either pressing the power gives a quick spin up of fans then instant off (every time until I pull the plug), or sometimes it will restart a few times and then need hard powering off before it'll start up - then it'll boot up first time. Even with an overclock (if you can call it that) of 3.9GHz it does it, and the RAM's at stock speed.

Anyway, the board's gone back now so pending the refund I'll almost certainly get the Gigabyte OC. I do like the Asus a lot, but I think ATX will suit me better for now.

They confirmed the fault today (I was dreading a battle as it was intermittent) and have given me a full refund. I've just ordered the Gigabyte OC.
