Gilly

I have always wondered where Gilly was, and he was always a very impressive and fair moderator. I am very sad to hear he's no longer on the moderating team, but also very happy to hear it is because he is a man with a family to tend to. :)

OK, where's my post gone? It didn't break any rules, so why has it been deleted?

Is it now somehow against the rules to point out that this guy was nothing more than a moderator on an internet forum and that I'm somehow confused as to why he's been lauded as some kind of internet hero? I just can't understand how someone who did something so mundane, moderating a forum, can have his own thread that's moderated to an Orwellian standard.

Hardly an internet hero. But he put a lot of effort into moderating these forums and thus keeping tards off them.

Have you been on other forums? Most of them are like the Comments sections on Youtube videos. Just non stop abuse\trolling.

I thought the way he put himself across on the forums was pretty good as well. Always thought his posts and positions through. Second only to Dolph in that regard imo.
 
Of course I've been on other forums. I'm admin on a couple and a member of the moderating team on quite a few of the larger Flightsim sites. Yet, not one of them suffers from the 'text speak' disease because our userbase is mainly made up of educated people, like this place.

Ok, he, Gilly, might have been a good moderator but I fail to see why a thread populated by sycophants is needed. In my opinion, it would've been perfectly fine for Spie to just make the announcement thread and lock it. Then again that's a moot point as it's his forum, so he can do what he wants. Doesn't mean I have to agree with it though.

Well personally I love attention. In pretty much all forms. So if I'd invested thousands of hours of my time and received nothing in return, I'd want a thread of sycophants at the end of it all. :p

I have to agree it is quite a strange thread, it's not as if he has died. :confused:
 
He's been a member of the moderating forum for many years, he's also been a friend for many years. He's done a lot of work on/with the forums and people want to show their appreciation and thanks. What's wrong with that? Some people know how to have a modicum of respect.
