Are floor length dresses acceptable for an afternoon wedding? My sister is getting married in a couple of weeks, I've found something I reeeeally like, but its very 'evening', in fact the pink version is sold as a bridesmaid dress I think. Its green with brown detail (sounds awful, but its very priddy). The plan was/is to wear it with a little crocheted jackety thing and hat which both match the detail. The more I see it, the more I think Im going to come across as a wannabe bridesmaid (I was asked, but said no).

:(

Edited to add a pic

Not a ladeeee as such but i would imagine such a dress would be fine to wear at a wedding....

I have to say that in all the wedding I've been to (and there's a bloody lot of them) I can't say that I've seen many women wearing full length dresses. I doubt there's any rules to it all but I'd guess it's not the done thing :/

Thats it :( Desmo says no :( :(

Bumpoopants!!! I HATE clothes shopping.

SB, no, the linktastic one. The BT one is dead.

I'm with Kelly. To be seen to 'outdo' the bridesmaids doesn't sound like a good idea, but if that isn't the case, then I see nothing wrong in wearing a long dress.

afternoon do's wear light, pastel-pale colours as not to stand out too much and take the attention away from the bride. pinks a strange colour to go with.. how about a pale purple/lilac?

evening do's you can wear darker colours.

long floor length dresses tend to be evening wear as you say but one other thing to think about is where you'll be wearing it. if outside on the grass you'll get the dress dirty and it wont it be very practical. i'd suggest going for something a little higher off the ground (not too high that you look like a tart mind - something which shows off the ankles perhaps). it'll also give you an excuse to buy some matching shoes to go with it AND show them off at the same time. :)

OK, having seen the pic I'm now proclaiming myself the be all and end all of wedding attire :p

I say, as nice a dress as it is, it's too much for a wedding :)

What has your sister said? And why aren't you bridesmaid anyway?

I've not spoken to her about it. Im not a bridesmaid because we dont get on, very long story. We've built some bridges recently and things are much better. :)
