given free hosting on TSO how to point domain at it ?

A company I did some work for has let me host my blog on their hosting with TSO and set up a cpanel login. I've set up a ftp account and put the IP for the domain in my /etc/hosts and it works. I can't for the life of my figure out how do I set my actual domain to point to the new server when the time comes though ? Help !

You'll need to log into the domain control panel and find the DNS settings. There should be a few there - you're looking for A/AAAA and MX.

To point web users to your site, you'll need to set the A/AAAA record to the same IP that is currently in your hosts file.

MX is where emails will be sent, so only change that if you're moving emails onto your new hosting as well.
 
Cheers dude I also found a FAQ looks like I need to set my DNS on UK2 to the TSO name servers. It's also not pointing to the right root directory at the moment, any ideas ?

Doing my head in but I got a few weeks to sort it out :-)

You dont need to change to TSO nameservers if you dont want to.

Skip step 2 and leave the nameservers as they are.

At step 3 you need to add A records for the website. You might already have some in there or you might need to add them.
It's best practice to add 2 records here, one for www and one for a blank subdomain so that both http://www.your-domain.com and http://your-domain.com point to your site. Sometimes you need to enter a * for the blank record or sometimes you just leave it blank, depends on your host.

If you do decide to change the nameservers, you'll need to do this process on the TSO dns settings instead. The UK2 DNS settings wont do anything if you're not using the UK2 nameservers.
