Given stick for working extra hours?

Was a proper health and safety risk assessment done prior to the op coming in unannounced? I know a lot of what the HSE spout seems like a lot of nonsense, but there can be repercussions for not going by the book.

Actually just read the rest of the thread, looks like it was all ready done ;).

It's a huge company, building houses hundred of employees. Probably over a thousand.

Multiple people come in, sign in, work away and sign out. You need a security card to get into the building (multiple points of scanning your card to get in). So no need for him to check. People comeing in from other teams is very regular. It's really not an unusual thing. People do it all the time.

That to me says that there should be no issue from a H&S perspective.
 
Never work for free. Should have pointed it out to your boss, and he could have paid you for the work if deemed urgent.

Things just take x amount of time to get done. no need to get stressed about it. So some new starters didnt have desks set up for them the moment they arrive? Not exactly abnormal in most companies, small and large, contracting or PAYE.
