Giving up sugar in tea

I've been cutting all the crap out my diet like processed foods and fat and sugar and taking on a vegan diet.

After a month of eating healthy (as a snack I dip raw broccoli in humus) my girlfriend ordered a big dirty Chinese takeaway and it tasted sooo good it made my foods seems so bland and it's took me a week again to get the yum yum taste back for natural foods. Not eating that salty crap again.

Anyways point is I've been trying to cut down sugar in my teas. I've successfully cut down to 1tsp but just can't bear it with none. Everyone says I'll get used to it, but it still tastes grim without the sugar. Has anyone done this successfully - and how long did it take to get used to it?

One spoon of sugar isn't going to do you much harm. Get it down you.

Don't forget it all adds up through the week to one huge pot of sugar you've eaten. The little things add up.

I used to take 3-4 sugars in my tea and now much prefer it without any. Like you I used to hate the taste of tea without sugar. The turning point came for me when I went through a patch of drinking green tea and when I went back to the humble cuppa is was just way too sweet.

I don't approve of the vegan thing though! :p:D

Haha I've been drinking green tea for quite a while now, onto spearmint tea now. I think the same is happening to me as I had a normal brew the other day at a friends and it tasted so weird so I brought some green tea round as he brings his own coffee to mine as I never have any.

I also cut down from 2 sugars to 1 sugar and now if I try a cup of coffee with 2 sugars in it, it tastes like syrup and I can't drink it. Strange how you get used to things. I might even try cutting it out completely and would hopefully get used to that in the same way.

Do it, I'm trying it's kind of fun to push your will power.

Each to their own but that sounds rank :p I love the delicate flavour of Earl Grey and can't imagine sweetening it!

My friend has four sugars and I made him a brew with two sugars he insisted I didn't put any in.

How many cups of tea are you drinking a day?

It takes me months to go through a wee bag of sugar just having one spoon per cup.

I dunno some days one some days four. Those bags are pretty dense though?

But a week is also a long period of time and unless you're sitting on your arse all week, it's not going to do you much harm if any at all.

I have tea a maximum of two times a day, with one teaspoon of sugar, but at the same time I barely have any other sugary foods (certainly no sweets, biscuits or cake). It's all about moderation.

Yeah but it's like one vote won't win an election but cutting it all out in every area will.

This is what we need to be looking at here, I agree.

Vegan? VEGAN? What's up with you, you weirdo!

LOL totally another story, psh carnivores!. :p

You just get used to it, haven't had sugar in tea or coffee for years now. On the other hand, giving up your dirty takeaways for broccoli dips is a different matter, what's wrong with you? Life's too short to skip that junk for that ol' healthy stuff.

I know what you mean but I've been getting serious about gym and changing my diet lifestyle and I feel so much better for it. To answer spit I felt like crap after the Chinese had a huuuge crap lol my body just wasted most of it.

I will still have junk food but very rarely as a treat, life is short so I'm enjoying it healthy.

I am surprised so many of you don't have sugar. Yeah I'm getting more sensitive to sugar now, I can taste subtle sugar in foods I couldn't before like Parnsnips taste way sweeter, had one today. I thought people who didn't like sweets are crazy but guess it's all supply and demand for your body.

You're a man with that signature?

What, the best FPS ever existed? (for console)

2 coffees per day, 1 sachet of sugar @ 11 calories = 154 cals per week. Whoop dee freaking doo. I laugh at people in the office who love sugar in their tea but "try to be healthy" and go without. Then they scoff a packet of biscuits every other day.

Yeah cause they are using 1 sachet of sugar so they are still on the crack cocaine i mean sugar.

Aye, but I feel a bit of a ****** round someone's house when they ask if I'd like a cup of tea and I ask what they have, which is invariably PG, Tetley, Yorkshire, or some other tat. I then have to turn it down or grin and bear it, where once upon a time I'd guzzle anything gratefully. Though sometimes I turn up with a box and pretend I've just been shopping. "Have you tried this tea? it's dead nice." The buggers just tend to drink it though and the next time I'm round they're back on the crap - probably because they've bought 1500 bags for £2.56.

I have the same problem with beer. Ignorance was bliss, even though it tasted like ****.

LOL your friends must think you're a right snob. Everyone I know has either tetley or yorkshire they are so boring, they won't try anything new. I need to try different brands this clipper one. Jackson green tea is really nice. I told my friend no sugar or milk in my coffee tonight and he put 1tbps in and milk, said you can't have it without. I forced him not to the next one and his girlfriend got up and said I need one now that smells real nice I said told you, that's from no milk. Brings the taste and smell right out with no milk or sugar.
