Glad i got a ater meter fitted

I can't remember how much my water is, it isn't very much. I like being able to use water as I please. The idea of metering it is mental to me, but then I probably live in a different place to you.

I'm on a meter. Pay it by standing order monthly at £10.50 a month, and I'm still in credit :D

I thought this, but then went onto a meter. I now pay just over £20/month in metered fees, compared with over £500 in old rates. So literally half the price.

We wash 3 cars per week usually, dishwasher once per day, 2-3 showers per day, washing machine 4-5 times per week, water the gardens daily (in this weather), etc. I feel like i'd have to empty and refill a swimming pool quite a few times to even get close to the rated bills we would be on without the meter.

My gran has a issue with cleaning. She has to wash everything and so the water usage is immense.

They ended up paying £700 in 6 months I think :/

I need to phone my water company up and get a meter or if they decline ask for a revised bill
Been saying it for months though lol.... I'll have to make it a priority

I dont pay for water... well I do its just included in the service charge as the development where I live has a pumping station for the apartments!

Sounds more like a leak than heavy usage. We use water as if we are not on a meter and only get billed as above - metered water is really cheap.

It really is money down the drain, mind you my water company tried to tell me I'd end up paying more, and were very reluctant to fit a meter, 2 bed house, no garden, single occupancy.. I basically had to lay the law down and tell them I wouldn't pay any more bills unless they fitted one.
They then fitted one.

I posted a week or so back about the savings we'll make by going metered.

From an un-metered bill of £700 p.a, my calculation show it'll be more like £150 p.a. on the meter

Before I had kids that needed bathing everyday and fruit trees that needed watering everyday I was glad I was on a meter. Not so sure now.

Well Yeh if you have a hot tub and a vineyard, logic would suggest you'd be better off unmetered lol!

Some water companies will allow you to come off them.

We are paying about £1100 a year on a meter and apart from maybe not flushing the loo after a poo I can't really think of anyway of cutting it back that won't be an inconvenience.

I read you can't come off a water meter if you move into a house that has one already?

Someone I know who lives near us was scoffing at paying a £600 standing charge...I would take that any day!

 that's like £92 per month!
To put it into perspective £92 a month will buy 11.5 litres of bottled mineral water per day!

I believe if you get one fitted you can change your mind, but your stuck with the meter if you move somewhere that already has one.

Yeah I know how much it is! :D

I wish I could point to something that's blatantly obvious, but I can't. I don't wash my car, I don't own a pool, a pond or any sort of water feature. We both have showers, although my 2 year old has a bath every night, it's not a big one.

We switched the stop tap off and the water meter doesn't move, so if it's a leak it's in the house, but with everything off I can't notice it moving either.

I had meter installed on 1st of June and had only used 1 m3 of water in the whole month of June.

Cheap cheap cheap!
