Hi guys.

Due to an unfortunate incident involving drunkness and a friend on Saturday night, I now have a glass panel (interior window) that is damaged.

What is the best way to get this repaired? Whole new panel I think?

There are people around who do repair and restore these things so you may get lucky but that will probably have to get replaced.

I presume such people still exist but a glazier should be able to fix this quite easily. There are still lots of period homes with such features, they will cut glass to fit and match and re-work the lead to fit it.

Do not replace it, with a new panel they add character.

Your problem is windows have become disposable items so glaziers are not as common as they were and their skill sets are changing. There is bound to be someone who can do it it's just availability and price.

Yeah there is no repairing that. It's an authentic lead pane which if you want the same thing will prove quite costly. See this as an opportunity to buy a new frame or w/e it sits in and get a DGU with some obscure glass. Even getting a stained lead DGU would be cheaper than an authentic lead pane.

If you really like it and you want the same thing it's quite a specialised thing to remake one but can be done and as mentioned above it will be costly for the pane then you'd have to add fitting ontop.

We found someone to repair ours when we lived in Bristol. Can't remember cost (around £80 sounds right, though) and can't remember who it was. Was a one man (woman, in fact) business.

Ours was on a door though - took the whole thing away and brought it back finished. Didn't move most of it - just repaired the broken pane

I can't remember for sure, but I reckon it was this woman:

I'm sure you'll find a local one for wherever you are.

Thanks, that will help. Will look for a local person who can do the same.

Well I contacted a national company, they quoted me £101 + VAT. But their engineer round my area is on holiday till the 14th November. So cannot install till then.

I checkled with another company who said £300 aprox.

I also have a third company coming back to me later after he prices up the glass.

That price of £101 +VAT surprises me a lot TBH. I've seen quotes for smaller leads in region of £200-300 for a new one when they've said they can't repair the ones we've sent them. Good luck with it tho! :)

I'd fix it even for £100+ removibg original features is sad and surely something we've realised the foolishness of by now!
