Wow is that all a Passat is worth now? They actually might make sense as a used recommendation now.

What they are worth and what you can find them for are two different entities. Unless your at auctions, its unlikely you will see those prices on the Passat. ~disclaimer, I have not searched auto trader to confirm this.

I'm not daft. Thats a trade price, but it follows that you should get an 02 Passat for £4-£4.5k private which isn't that bad.

If this is the car

Volkswagen Golf GT
1.9TD Diesel 5-door Hatchback
6 Speed Manual Front Wheel Drive

then

Excellent condition:
£6220

Average condition:
£5570

Below average condition:
£4890

With the mileage I have on it I thought I could get closer to £5k. I suppose obviously I cant even get £4k from a trade in because of what the guide says?

Private sale me thinks :(

Can I push my luck to a valuation request on a 2001 Y 1.8 Astra CDX w/ 100k please?

Vauxhall Astra CDX
1.8 Petrol 5-door Hatchback
5 Speed Manual Front Wheel Drive
Year: 2001 Y
Mileage: 100,000

Excellent condition:
£1550

Average condition:
£1395

Below average condition:
£1215

Which is actually a pretty bargain tastic price for the car. You really wont see if for that.

As a rule once a car gets down to <£1500 its worth what its worth i.e. what people are willing to pay.

Unless it is really old, undesirable, nackered. You would only see these prices at auction on one of these considering it still costs £1k-£1.5k for 12 year old escorts, fiestas, metros etc etc. Bargains can be had, good cars can be had, but it gets harder at this price bracket. Unless you want a mondeo.

I bet you're getting fed up with this, but any chance you could give the valuation for a:
2002 51plate Ford Focus 2.0 Zetec ESP (5 door) - 70k miles?

Nice cars these

Ford Focus Zetec ESP
2.0 Petrol 5-door Hatchback
5 Speed Manual Front Wheel Drive
Year: 2002 52
Mileage: 70,000

Excellent condition:
£3040

Average condition:
£2730

Below average condition:
£2420
