Glenn Frey - RIP

I still can't forgive them for ripping off tull but this is a shame.

I have every album by Tull and seen them quite a few times since the early 70s and I have every album by The Eagles and seen them twice in the 70s but I have no idea what you're on about.
Two totally different bands and styles.

Yeah. Melodies float around. The music evolves. It's all good.

Damn. Another man down. Where will it end?

Recently fired up that 4 hour long history of the Eagles doc on Now TV / Sky Arts (again)

That bit at the beginning where they're in a huddle and sing those 5 part harmonies accapella style?

Awesome.

Makes me weep what passes for " talent" these days.

Really? Listen to the chord progression and timing of 'we used to know' compared to 'hotel california'.
Hotel california, which was penned when the eagles were supporting tull.

Infact, have a link!

Yeah and SLTS was ripped from Boston’s More Than A Feeling, but with better results. Oasis ripped stuff too. Melody shouldn't be a patent. A good riff should be recycled. :D

***EDIT*** That link doesn't work btw.

It's not recycling when it's released at the same time! It's plagiarism!

There are only so many Chords in the book of Chords. Everything is a rehash if you thinkabboudit.

Personally? As someone who spent far too long in a cold bedroom in the late 60's and early seventies I 'd much rather listen to someone singing about a " Dark Desert Highway with Cool Wind in My Hair" than someone bemoaning the fact that weevils have eaten his codpiece. Or something along those lines...

I see your point but music has always transcended inception. Like words or art, these things intermingle and there's a recrudescence as people copy and paste but it's all producing ever nicer results... in most cases

I used to listen to that Tull album all the time and never cottoned on however like Anderson says "But it’s difficult to find a chord sequence that hasn’t been used, and hasn’t been the focus of lots of pieces of music"

If you want to pick on a band for ripping other artists off then there is none worse than my all time favourites Led Zeppelin. I really don't know how they didn't get sued to kingdom come.

RIP Glenn
Tull weren't being supported by Gloria Gaynor on that tour as well were they? :D 'I Will Survive' uses that identical natural chord progression too ;)
