So it turns out that the world might naturally be saving itself from our stupidity.

Of course nothing is set in stone. But I must admit that I personally always found it pretty funny that humanity was so big headed we thought we could actually kill the planet. Earth, being the longest-living thing we know remotely anything about… it turns out is still surprising us, shock horror. I hope this is true and all the idiots in the town centre can stop bugging me about killing the planet :D

Cause and effect - it might "trap" the C02 at the bottom of the sea, but it'll be eaten by sealife and eventually make it's way back into the enviroment.

To be honest I think that no matter what we do to the planet, it will always wreak its revenge and heal itself. Nature is far more powerful than humans could ever be after all.

Even if they start artificially seeding the oceans it won't come anywhere close to reversing the amount of CO2 being pumped into the atmosphere by human activity.

Waits for the pro global warming morons to flock in and say "its we, the human race that is destroying the planet" nothing to do with the natural cycle of the sun......

"It covers 20million square miles, and scientists say that if this could all be treated with iron, the resulting algae would remove three-and-a-half gigatons of carbon dioxide. This is equivalent to one eighth of all emissions annually created by burning fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal.

It would also be equal to removing all carbon dioxide emitted from every power plant, chimney and car exhaust in the rapidly expanding industries of India and Japan."

It's a good start.

Seeing that humanity currently possesses enough nuclear weapons to split this planet apart and has killed of countless numbers of species of plant and animal life over the past (x) thousand years, I've always considered it somewhat bizarrre that some people believe we are incapable of doing any irreperable damage to the planet.

At least the article acknowledges that global warming is a genuine phenomenon.

That would sound a little more credible if it wasn't coming from somene who runs to the Internetz and spams these forums every time he discovers a new conspiracy theory.

We don't have enough nuclear weapons to split this planet apart, lol, nowhere near. To dent the surface maybe ;).

You'd be surprised how un-easy it is to kill a planet.

Well yeah, there is /natural fluctuations/ we all agree with that - but if you also take into account the massive ammount of crap nations pump into the world along with the ammount of unnatural products we bury in the ground, it makes CO2 levels and other such gases spike much higher than natural fluctuations.

While the earth may be able to heal itself to a certain degree - I think we are pushing the boundries of how far it can heal itself.

The earth will be fine. The real question is, will we be? The earth, and life on it, will be here long after we have gone. As far as species go we are a tiny blimp when it comes to longevity so far.
