Glowrings

My watch (H3 Traser P6508)has tritium in it:

Nice warm feeling that I radioactive material on me 24hrs a day.

Surprising how bright it is, but I bought one of those glowrings for the mrs and thought it was absolute crap.

I have one that glows light purple. It's not very bright but it was free with a knife I bought so can't really complain. Had it for around 2 years now and it still works.

When I read they were Tritium I was going to give an explanation, but didn't have time to get everything exact, so didn't post :p

What he said :)

Are there any "higher quality" ones therefore?
the ones made by traser were the brightest (traser make the little vials in the watch posted above) but they don't appear to make them anymore.

also, the traser ones were the ones where the plug fell out if they were handled roughly which allowed the sapphire glass tube to fall out.

i don't know who make decent ones these days.

the one i have is a traser one and its all plastic, but that was bought a long time ago.

no, the exterior is plastic, but the tritium is in a very strong sapphire glass tube lined with phosphor.

oh yes, sorry, i know that - i must have misunderstood you. But mine is sealed - there is no chance of the glass tube coming out even if i wanted to get at it - maybe some were worse than others.

Well the keyring glow thing sure does glow in the dark. I'm sitting in my bed in the dark atm on the net and watching a bit of tv and I can see it very clearly.

..is it ment to be this dim?
If you were in near complete darkness it certainly shouldnt be, ive had mine for about a year now and its still a lot brighter than that, it should be that intensity about 3 or so metres away

That was with the camera on the box of it guess I got a crap one then :(

Science wins, naysayers lose. awesome.
Nice - thanks for the explanation... it did make sense, but as I'm not a geeky scientist I couldn't tell if you were feeding me a few porkies or not. Sounds convincing though, so gonna try and find a good quality one of these :)

Well it's been 3 years :D and mine is still going strong, it's fairly bright as well in the dark and has helped me find my keys numerous times.
When I first bought it the glow was barely noticeable, but it improved over time. I'll grab a picture tonight when it's darker.

Holy poo......I thought this was a nre thread until I saw the date of the first post.....reading through the thread, although a cool idea, these seem to have been a bit of a let down performance wise.....anyone alse still got theirs and how is it performing, is it like vaders and getting better or just a big fail?.
Would like to know as it is a cool idea and I'm tempted to look into getting one.

I've had one for years. Also have a watch with tiny canisters of the same stuff on the hands and on the numbers, looks very bright at night. As above the watch is much better than the keyring, and so it should be at 350 quid.
