I've been well-behaved this year on the diet front. I eat pretty cleanly, don't drink fizzy drinks and have been exercising. The outcome is that I've lost about a stone and a half, which is about where I want to be (6' tall, just under 12st).

Anyway, this morning I woke up with a massive craving for something really bad for me. Something that might well make my heart heave and strain as it tries to pump the buttery, sugary blood around my body. Well, perhaps I'm getting a little carried away here.

Long story cut short...

I toasted some syrup pancakes...

Added lots of bacon...

Introduced some maple syrup (brought back from Canada) to the mix...

Enjoyed the crazy guilt and delights of bacon and pancakes with maple syrup.

Conclusion: It'll be a while before I need to do that again. I feel like I'll never need to eat again.

Experiencing a mixture of disgust/elation with myself right now.

I have been a vegetarian for nearly two years, but I will admit...

sometimes I get a whiff of bacon or see a thread like this and my mouth starts watering...

There must be something about bacon. I've heard this so many times and remember camping as a kid when someone would start frying bacon and the next day everyone would be at it ;)

I think, considering you've lost so much weight and been so good on your diet, an occasional treat like this wont do you any harm :)

Does look tasty. I've never actually had bacon and pancakes together. Doesnt the syrup taste weird on the bacon?

Needed Maple Bacon for extra maple points, and maybe a little crispier.

Still, I'd be well pleased with the breakfast. Good effort.

what's wrong with that combination. It's only really an English thing that doesn't mix sweet and savoury to gather. Most other cultures do it as standard.

Need bigger pancakes. Plate sized :p.. Mmmmm droolage.

im indian, i dont think there is anything in our culture food wise that does it.

its just wrong, its like mixing sugar and salt and putting it on your chips.

i hate sweet and sour chinese curries also, they are awful. and the whole pineapple and pizza or nandos thing is mingin too.

Sweet and savoury is a fantastic flavour combination and I just don't get people that dislike it.
Most SE Asian dishes are built around the right balance of sweet, salty and sour flavours and they taste great.

In terms of Indian dishes, I've cooked a few Goan things that use the sweet and salty combination. I also sometimes make a lamb and apricot curry that uses sweetness in a savoury dish.
Peshwari naan is also another sweet thing that goes well with savoury flavours.

That's just you. Look at all of Asia, far east, as I said most of the world uses sweet, sour, salt and heat all at the same time. Is it denmark that serves pudding as main courses. Jamica uses sweet fruit as do a lot of countries. Even India uses sweet and sour.
