Gmail account hacked

Haven't got a clue how this has happened or why my account as been chosen to be hacked

Anyway all the questions gmail are asking me:

Email addresses of up to five frequently emailed contacts: i dont email anyone

Names of up to four labels: haven't got a clue what this is on about

Google products you used with this account and the date you started using each one: haven't got a clue what this is about either

Account creation date: not a clue

So basically im screwed aint i? has anyone here had similar problems?

Luckily my bank account and main ocuk account aint tied with gmail,

Wondering how this as been done to, the sites i only EVER and i mean ever go on is OCuK,Facebook,Youtube,Pistonheads,bbci player,TV guide,Civiclife and formula 1 sites

is there somehow a possibility of me having a virus on my computer or something? i know me youtbe account is linked with gmail

on the bottom of gmail web access it records the ip adress of the last known computer to access it.

try asking them to give you the ip or to forware the ip address to the correct authorities.
 
Tell them you dont regularly email other people, you dont use labels or other google products with the account and that you are unsure when the account was created but would be at least x years ago

Fixed, and its because you are using the same password as for other websites. Google itself is probably quiet secure, however other websites may not to the same degree. Not hard to if register on some forum, that gets its database nicked.

so how do i tell them as it doesn't give me a option to explain anything?

also only youtube and gmail have the same password luckily enough, have different passwords for different kind of things

If you've got any accounts that have emails in your mailbox "welcome to x, your password is y" etc, then reset the passwords for those too
 
Glad you got it sorted - I had the same about 2 years ago, I felt like i'd been raped.

As said, check your amazon/play/anything else - they'd hit the "forgotten my password" link on them all and got access to every account.
 
Mine also got hacked yesterday, but google havent noticed?

It managed to send out a spam email to everyone in my address book. Luckily I think thats all its done, I have since changed several passwords and disabled pop/imap.

How could this of happened on a web mail account? I havent recently used the account anywhere out of the ordinary or signed up to anything new, very frustrating and worrying.

I have anti virus and ad-aware both up to date and running, with no infections.

This has just happened to me now - basically exactly the same.

Anyone else have the message at the top of GMail going on about secondary email address' and what not to reset your password if it's changed?
 
Had my hotmail hacked.. felt so sick..Spoke to microsoft and they fixed me up in 30 mins really really impressed....

10 years ive had that address and so much associated to it..

i was very lucky

Anyone know what causes it? Any similar news on it? Really don't fancy any of my other details being compromised.

Scarily my VISA card is linked to my gmail account through google checkout, deleted that quick sharp!

A work colleague had exactly this happen to her hotmail account on Tuesday.

Just changed my gmail password to be on the safe side :)
 
Strange this is happening to so many in the last few weeks.

Spam was sent to all my hotmail address book last week (Saturday) and I've had that account for over 10 years with no problems (and with a unique password) - I also have Virus software and most other anti stuff running on my PC (and I dont access hotmail from anywhere else)

There is even a MS page on the problem at the moment with the exact spam email detailed (which is worrying)
