Gmail not Googlemail - proxy?

Hi,
Has anyone got a good reliable non UK proxy Ip? I want to set up a gmail account but not googlemail. I tried the proxy4free site but the 10 or so I tried are either slow or don't work.
 
I thought you could still use gmail.com as your address, even though the branding is googlemail?

Put an american address in the gmail page and it should give u a gmail addy. Only in the uk as far as i know that all new gmail accounts are now going by googlemail.com addresses.
 
I tried changing the country to anything other than UK but I need a proxy. I got a US proxy working and I was given a gmail account but when I try to complete the setup it doesn't move to the next page. I have done it in the past so I know it works but I can't find a good proxy.

The @gmail for uk address works fine if you use a proxy to setup or you already had a gmail account but all new registrations from UK are googlemail.com

I know this, when google announced the change I remember them saying that @gmail.com would still work for UK/European users.
 
People sending mail to you can use @gmail.com for any Google Mail address - if you are in the UK and sign up now, though, your email will be sent as @googlemail.com.

If that really bothers you then I'm sure there are people from the US on these forums who will sign up for you, probably easier to find a person than try and go through some slow proxy.
