Hi,

I've got my gmail setup so that push works, I get a beep when an new email arrives but I don't see anything displayed on the screen, is there an option on the iphone to enable this?

Cheers

theres not an option to do this built in (infuiriating!) .

Best alternative i've found is boxcar on the app store. Essentially what you do is you are given a forwarding address for you emails (they claim it only reads from/subject - depends how much you trust them!), then boxcars servers push notification to your phone with from/subject.

it also does facebook/twitter notifications as well.

Its good, but not perfect, but is better than nothing.

Are you sure it's set up to be pushed i.e using Microsoft exchange server.

If it is, then check the push notifications menu and there should be options for alerts/badges/sounds.

Unless GMAIL is different on the 3GS opposed to the 3G you can't push GMail. It fetches no problem though.

However you do get a notification, it's just not the kind of notification you get via say, an SMS. By default it should pop a number (in red) on the mail icon.
