Ok, So I have 12,000 messages in my account.

The time has come to keep the ones I want to keep and delete the rest, then keep on top of my inbox from then on out! :)

But I can't work out how to do it.

The problem is that I have already archived like 10k, but want to keep some of them, so how do I split them apart, then delete the rest of the arichived ones?

I ask this because I presume the 'archive' is the only place to store old messages - I was disapointed that it does not look like you can simply create another folder.

Can anyone help?

I thought 7k was a lot!

Im not too sure about this, can you not search for the ones su want to keep by using the search option, or can you not just tick the box at the side of the screen on each email you want to delete..

You could create folders with IMAP and move your messages to them.

Or that..

Get yourself a new account. It's obvious that too many people know your current address.

That isn't actually the problem, believe it or not!

I just talk to things far too much, and I never changed my facebook settings (which I have now done!)

Ok, So i have just set up IMAP - how do I get the specific emails I want to keep in therE?

Use labels? You can createa filter to label messages and archive them straight away..

All I did was this.

1) Using say outlook right click on your gmail IMAP account and choose new folder and give it a name, click ok.

2) Select your [Gmail]/All Mail folder (this includes already archived emails)

3) Select all emails you want to move to the newly created folder.

4) Right click > Move to Folder and select the folder you created.

As is said, I was struggling to find stuff on search, not least because even the rarest term seemed to generate loads of emails! :)
