It is pretty competitive in the office
one bloke is meant to be really good

but for a first time go karter about to go with colleagues from work
what advice do you have for me?

Are you tall? I've been a few times to different circuits and I always end up with a massive blister at the base of my back. The cars don't really fit anyone taller than 6 foot (as if the weight disadvantage isn't bad enough...)

Having said that it's absolutely amazing fun. Slow into the corners, out fast.

Don't brake going into corners, brake as late as you can then turn in, then smoothly get back on the throttle coming out of the bend.
Or just ****ing PUNCH IT!

Also, if you're like me, 6'6" and heavy, you'll not win anyway ;)

I've been once and got into the habit of going out wide and leaning into the corners. I'm 6ft 4 myself and also found it a bit uncomfortable.

There were 12 people from work but one guy was in a karting club and invited 18 people who were pretty awesome. I was 30th for most of the course but picked it up and finished a respectable 20th. I just watched the better drivers and copied them.

It's a bugger if you lose control though, the karts we used don't reverse and some gadger has to roll you back into place.

Go easy on the breaks. Most tracks I've raced on only require a tap to slow down to corner. Also be wary of using too much throttle mid corner.

Or, more likely, you'll forget all advice in the heat of the race and just have a cracking time. Most places have health and safety rules galore, no ramming!

Pedal to the medal.
Don't turn AND brake at the same time. Brake in a straight line, then turn. They spin like crazy if you turn and brake too hard.

Be aggressive, drive right on people's bumper, wait for them to screw up and then take them.

Be aggressive but fair. You may feel quite timid when first racing, but push on early and you'll learn the limits quicker and have more fun. Depending on the track surface these karts really are pretty easy to drive well and have an incredible amount of grip, so don't be scared about chucking it into corners.

Watch the common 'breaking and throttling at the same time'. Most people seem to do it to start with.

Don't crash into your boss.

Crash into someone you fancy as an icebreaker :D.

If you somehow end up on the podium, shout "**** yeah dudes!" when they give you your trophy.

lol thanks guys
nah not that tall pretty heavy though

yer there's one bloke who is meant to be really good so fun times ahead

thanks about the braking advise
no breaking on a bend just before
keep em coming

Ensure you don't have any writing to do afterwards, you're lower arms will be aching like mad!!!

I think also, what people are saying about being light is not always the case. When I went with friends, the chap who was actually the heaviest was also the fastes and the overall winner because he was able to carry more speed through the corners than the lighter drivers!

Take it easy, smoothness > all

People that push too hard always end up spinning the karts.
