Hi there,

In the gym i go to, a local fitness first, there are many slogans across the wall, like "be yourslelf, only better" things like that.

However one of them i don't understand what it means. In the spinning room on the wall is, "Go Nowhere Fast".

What does that mean, its not exaclty a positive saying is it?

shouldn't it be go soemwhere fast, or something like that.

Oh well, just seeing if anyone else thinks its odd, and or knows what it means.

Thanks tom.

Imho, it refers to not rushing it; taking your time and doing it well, as opposed to going fast and not doing it as well/thoroughly.

My name's David btw. ;) :p

Look, 'going nowhere fast' is a common expression for something that has stopped: on a treadmill you're going nowhere and actually going fast, it's a pun designed to make you smile and then lose 3 stone.

Whereas in reality it just confuses idiots.

My plan was to not tell them, and see how long it took them to work it out. Thanks for ruining that :p

After you've seen a thread asking if an egg boiled for an hour is 'safe to eat' lesser confusion just doesn't seem funny any more

edit - hang on it seems I was ignored completely, the stupidity continues!

In the spinning room on the wall is, "Go Nowhere Fast".

It's because that's what you do when you are spinning; you go nowhere, but you do it as quickly as you can.

I almost succumbed to my desire to write that all in capitals, but then I would have had to hurt myself. Now look what you've done.

ok, thanks my bad, obviously its more simple than i though. I just think its a pretty demoralising slogan. As if to say, "yeh well done you going pretty fast, but your getting nowhere" if you see what i mean.

I always understood 'going nowhere fast' to mean...'You're not making any progress with the task you're trying to complete.'

So if you're trying to write a novel, but you're stuck writing the first chapter, and someone asks how the novel is comming along - you'd say that you're getting nowhere fast.

It's just used to exagerate how you're completely unable to make any progress with what you're trying to do.

Reading way too much into it, the motivational poster relies on people knowing the phrase and having a wry smile at it being put into that context.

I'm mildly curious why your gym has a

spinning room
