Ive always been a fan of iPods and Apple design. I frankly love the whole clean, clinical style they have going.

Ive been using an iPod mini for some time, basically since they were launched and its losing its life a little. Its time for an upgrade i feel, considering i havnt gone nano and kinda stepped around that boat.

So, iPod Touch.. as far as i see its iPhone, which i dislike due to the silly phone capabilities they have used.. but without that phone rubbish. Plus i dont need a phone, i need an mp3 player, but the wifi and applications is intriguing.

How useful really is the wifi, is it actually worth having, and how close can the iPod Touch be to my organiser (i dont have a PDA, but i could use one)? Can you cache internet pages such as my iGoogle to do list? I like the idea of having everything in one device, which could mean a PDA is a better option.

And basically, with this in mind, should i stick to just an mp3 player and go for a nano, or if we go entirely the other way, would one of these PDAs that does everything from music to SatNav be more up my street?

Any help is much appreciated.

You can bookmark any webpage you want, if that helps.

I've bookmarked digg.com and a few other iPhone-compatible sites and they look amazing when they load up. Browsing on WiFi is excellent, and yes, it does cache pages to an extent.. but on WiFi you won't notice it :)

Now that you can sync your calendar to google calendar (via iCal) you could easily set up a basic PDA.. not sure about note or to-do syncs though (don't use them sorry).

Hope this helps.

Naturally after running to the forums ive done some of my own research. Ive just stumbled onto the whole smartphone thing, but ive decided thats not the route i want just at the moment.

Are we developing third party apps for the iPod touch yet? Ive heard a lot about them being cracked, which i imagine we arnt allowed to discuss on here. So if you dont mind i might thrown you onto my msn. edit: you dont appear to use msn?!

edit: More research and more knowledge, http://www.pocketpicks.co.uk/latest...oneipod-touch-third-party-apps-the-aftermath/ it seems Apple are allowing third party apps?!

Interesting, if you get one we would like some images of some of the features and a review of how you like it! in detail :P

Im fairly sure some of the chaps already have them here. Although if i do get one i will really be looking to stretch its functionality, possibly to the point of writing my own apps, if that is possible.

gord, if you want to add me (or anyone for that matter) just add my trust email to MSN.

(It's the .mac addy)

The only thing the Touch is lacking for a basic (yes, basic) organiser is a notes function. It has Calendar (which now you can edit) and Contacts.

The web browsing via wifi is great for such a small device. A Mail app would be cool too but its easy enough to use webmail.

For me it really comes into its own when jailbroken. The apps you can install then make it into more than a flashy MP3 player. You can get all the apps off the iPhone (googlemaps, email etc) plus some nifty third party ones. Well worth doing.

Echo; just google/youtube search around :)

Only thing is to find wireless to connect - Cloud WiFi provides a good "cheap" service - *note* iPod Touch, cannot connect to WiFi other than WEP/WPA Personal (and I think WPA2 Personal) due "technical difficulties".

Making it kinda poo on that front. Other than that, I can't fault it.

the SDK has been announced - I'm not normally one for buying first gen apple products, so I'll probably wait for the next lot to come out. Once companies like Panic et al start making apps for them, it'll be awesome!

Can it be used on an unsecured network?
