Go to PSU brands for 1000w or 1200w?

I've had a Seasonic PSU in my build for 6 years but as mentioned in my first post, the coil whine is pretty annoying at times when the GPU gets involved.
It states ATX 3.0 here but if you go on their website, I believe they show as 3.1. From my reading about the differences, it would appear 3.0 is better.
Oh really? I need to do some reading up then. What's the very short version of why 3.0 if you don't mind sharing?

From my understanding is that the hold up time is reduced on ATX 3.1 which I believe is how long it holds up when the input voltage is removed.

But also:
  • ATX 3.0: Uses the 12VHPWR connector, which had issues with high-end graphics cards
  • ATX 3.1: Uses the 12V-2x6 connector, which is a safer and more efficient replacement for the 12VHPWR connector.
So to be fair, I'm not overly clear, I believe it's mainly connector differences. Someone more intelligent will hopefully chime in.

Thanks. I found this helpful article (not read through it all yet): https://hwbusters.com/quick-tips/sh...3-0-will-be-fine-everything-you-need-to-know/

Separately, I stumbled across the following PSU. Seems to review well but i need to do more digging: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ante...d9wSsBj1e-tWYN_80tXegpS6XfyPnHDcix7cYoHRPrjDI

1000w and i think 850w also available.

I did see them being advertised. I believe an antec rep created a thread on here about them. They look good also.

This one was on my short list too.
Been reading a bit about the Seasonic Vertex and it's not looking too great. Loads of reports of early failures and coil whine even at idle.
Your going to drive yourself mad and I don't think I'm helping , lol

I notice coil whine in my machine but only when I'm gaming, it seems to be the more frames the worse it is.

And I'm pretty sure that it only started doing this after I swapped my PSU (EVGA p2 650w)

But with me not really gaming on PC now it's something I've never got round to addressing, purely on the basis that i don't know if I can be bothered playing the lottery! Could be the GPU could be the PSU, could be both, or one could not like the other!

I really do hate this little niggly annoying things!

I drive myself mad with indecisiveness haha.

I swapped graphics card and the sound is exactly the same but generally once the FPS starts ramping up.
My general thought was that it's 6 years old now and planning to upgrade graphics card again sometimes soon so perhaps with age it may get weaker. Who knows.

Yeah that's how mine is. The higher the frames the louder it is.

Pretty sure the PSU and the GPU don't like each other! Like I say, I don't PC game anymore so it's irrelevant for me. But yeah, I share your pain!

I'm not in a major rush so will wait it out to look for new reviews and further feedback on the new standard PSUs.
If I was to get a PSU right now it would be the nzxt c 1200 3.1 at £160, been recommended the 3.0 version for a while when it was down to £120.

Hw busters has it 3rd best overall performance.

But I may be back with another suggestion for you @michty_me :D

Haha I'm all ears!
I have just been looking at their lists on that website and sort of zeroed in on the NZXT C1200 again.
I've seen it recommended quite a few times also. Better get the spade out for how much digging I'll be doing into PSUs

I think I read something like that 3.0 ATX spec has a peak transient voltage of 2x max supply that is slightly longer than 3.1 ATX. However, that's not to say that a 3.1 is going to be better as a 3.1 could also meet the 3.0 requirement. I think the main difference is that a 3.1 must come with the 12v6 connector rather than some weird adaptor like Corsair insists on.

I think you could be correct whereas 3.1 drops this down to 1.5x I believe.
It would make sense that the vertex shows as 3.1 on Seasonic website as they now bundle the 12v6 cable in instead of the adapter.
