I never played the godfather on any other consoles but was just reading about the wii version when this got me excited

How is the Godfather for Wii different from the previously released versions of the title?

The biggest difference is how we use the Wii controls to immerse players in combat. On other platforms, the Blackhand fighting system is a "Fight Night" style control scheme built for mobsters; on Wii, our team decided to make it like REAL brawling. You'll be able to throw left and right hand jabs, hooks, and uppercuts; grab enemies and throw them around with both hands; perform head-butts and neck-snaps... We had so much fun with the controller possibilities that we mo-capped a bunch of exclusive moves to fit some of the gestures we'd developed, like the open-handed smack and pistol whip. At the end of the day, we want players to feel like the Wii controller was designed with the Godfather in mind!

The approach we took was to make the Nunchuk act as an extension of the player's left hand while the Wii Remote would represent the player's right hand. Forward jabs and hooks are your basic moves, but you can also charge attacks, or grab enemies by holding the two shoulder buttons. When grabbing, slam both hands forward to push someone up against a wall, or pull both hands towards your body for a head-butt. You can swing and throw enemies around in a similar fashion. With a bat or crowbar, you can perform different melee weapon attacks by swinging the Wii remote in different directions. Finally, all our firearm aiming is performed with the Wii remote (in two different modes: free-aim and lock-on). We still have standard target-locking, but by modifying your aim with the Wii remote, you can make precision shots like disarming a guy in the shoulder, dropping him with a hit to the knee, or taking him out with a single headshot.

looks like its gonna be a whole lotta fun if they get this right

Sounds promising.

Are the other versions any good?

Played on the xbox 360, just like a normal adventure kind of game or was it fps?

Pretty bland game, was good due to the whole mafia theme.

Will look forward to the Wii game, purley because of the controls.

Personally I don't really like the controls on Wii Boxing - so I don't think I'll enjoy this game either. But good luck to them for trying.

i really enjoy the 360 version, its mainly due to *** whole mafia thing, but then again that is the reason for the game lol, its looks very good when you beat people up lol

Pretty crap on the PC once you got bored of hearing the theme tune. Clunky controls and dodgey gameplay. On top of that Al is not in it which is Shocking. Also everywhere looks the same. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Thought I would restart this thread rather than begin a new one.

I bought this over the weekend and have been playing it non stop - it's great!

Reminds me of the Mafia game on the XBOX/PC (obviously), the setting and music really immerse you in the game - the voice acting is really good with a great plot.

You start in the Corleone family and was first promoted to Enforcer and am now Associate.

You get missions to perform and also there is always the background task of extorting businesses to get more respect and income.

I have found it pretty free format so far, I have a few missions in my list to pick up, but have been going round building up my protection rackets. I even stormed a rival families warehouse with a buddy (you can hire associates) and took it over.

The controls are great - the Wii remote is used really well as the gun, and the two controllers together are used really well in close - you can grab someone, drag them around, slam them against walls, headbutt them etc, it feels really realistic - although I bet I look a bit strange 'throwing' people around my lounge! :D

All in all I had come concerns before I bought it but really happy I did. If you like the GTA/Mafia/Saints Row style of 3rd person drive/shoot and the Godfather setting then you will love this game.

I have to say, I nearly picked this up whilst shopping the other day. Didn't want to risk a dodgy PS2 port, but most things being said about the game are positives. Think I'll stick it on my birthday list :D

It's a shame they don't have demo downloads on the Wii as they do on Live so you could try it. I'm not sure what the PS2 version is like, so can't compare but I'm really enjoying this. Obviously the graphics aren't up to 360/PS3 HD standards but they do look nice and the gameplay/control method more than makes up for it.

There's a few games that I was concerned about getting for the Wii but having got them loved every minute - Wario (still playing), Rayman (completed story, playing score mode now) and this.

It must be good as I played about 2 hours solid as soon as I got in after buying it, and then again last night for 2 or more until I could literally not stand up anymore!

Anyone else got this apart from me? I'm about 10 hours in now and still loving it.

Quick tip for anyone who does have it - always keep bribing the police - they only cost around $200 each and takes about 5 to fill up your bribe bar.

They will turn a blind eye to you killing rivals and stealing cars etc - but best of all, when you get attacked by rivals or take down a rival racket the police steam in to protect you and pack a hard punch when there is 3 or 4 of them.

I actually find the police more useful than the mafia hit squad which you can call in.

Yeah, that would be great. I read somewhere that there's a rumour of it happening some time in the distant future, and that Ninty would be releasing a USB HDD to allow saving the demos. Can't remember where I saw it though, and it was only an unofficial rumour so I wouldn't stake my mortgage on it ever happening - but I really hope it does.

Would like to see that happen. Being able to play a demo of a game would sway me to buy a game, if it was any good. Would also have prevented me from buying Red Steel ;)
