GOES-14 first image of earth

I remember years ago i searched around for full earth images from space and not much turned up, i did end up finding the goes site but all they had were low resolution images in black and white, it's good they now offer higher resolution but wtf is it still doing in black and white?

I find it odd at best and suspicious at worst because really there's no excuse, we really should have live streaming images or video by now in full colour high definition, well at least images in hd, video perhaps not but i would settle for dvd quality, don't say it can't be done or are you forgetting we have loads of communications satellites in geostationary orbit beaming down high bandwidth signals, sky hd anyone? Stick a camera on one and we would have a nice earth channel, anything less is a let down. :(

Edit: Oh yeah just remembered this which some might find interesting, shows proper close up images of the earth in full colour.

And who would stump up the millions/billions in annual running costs of these totally worthless program?
 
What an amazing sight. Kinda makes you feel small.

I also like that night picture too, it's funny how North Korea has like on big light, thats probably kim-jong-ils house. lol
