Going abroad on holiday will be ILLEGAL from monday!

The UK is turning into Alcatraz, all we need now is the army deployed and a gigantic perimeter wall around the whole UK border that shoots to kill anyone that tries to leave or enter. Next we will need passports to enter each and every town.

It's becoming a cowing joke.

We are an island, like alcatraz
people were sent to alcatraz for extreme circumstances
Recent news means were letting more in than alcatraz :p

I actually have the opposite problem to most, I want to visit family in the UK, but can't in case I get stuck there.... 18 months now since I last visited. :(

Wonder how many people with properties abroad will use the get out clause - known as the "Stanley Johnson" clause.

People will be allowed to leave the UK to prepare a second home for sale or rent, according to new coronavirus regulations coming into force later this month.

The latest restrictions, which will apply from 29 March, will include a list of specific “reasonable excuses to travel” outside the country, including what Labour branded as “the Stanley Johnson clause”.

Boris Johnson’s father, Stanley, last summer apparently breached Covid guidelines by travelling to his Greek villa to make it “Covid-proof”.

The exemption allows people to travel abroad “in connection with the purchase, sale, letting or rental of a residential property”. Those activities include visiting an estate agent, developer sales office or show home, viewing residential properties to rent or buy, and preparing a property for moving in.

So I could literally visit an estate agent abroad, pick up a business card and a couple of villa for sale sheets and I’m ready to roll.

Nice.

Not that i was planning on going yet, but i might have to tell my parents to act feebly so i need to go care for them :p

But I should be allowed to book a holiday wherever I want in the middle of a global pandemic and then whinge that the government isn't flying me home on a private jet when things go wrong. You can't expect me to be responsible for having any common sense. Its clearly the governments fault for letting me leave the country.

I have family in the U.K. I haven’t seen for 18 months either as they couldn’t travel back when it was possible and we’ve no idea when they will be able to visit us again, especially our elderly parents.

Same here, haven't seen my family in the UK for 18 months. Had three niece and nephews born last year, they don't know who I am.

But its first world problems to me.

No you have to show a negative test to get on the plane in the first place.

So how would that work on the return flight ?

It can take almost a week after exposure to COVID-19 to register a positive test result.

Evidence suggests that testing tends to be less accurate within three days of exposure, and the best time to get tested is five to seven days after you were exposed. Tests are even more accurate when patients are exhibiting symptoms.

You would need to finish your 'holiday', then go into isolation for atleast a week - travel to and get to the testing station , still in isolation - then board the plane.

Sounds feasible

UK based short holiday break :p
Can't even do that!

Staying away from home overnight

You cannot leave your home or the place where you are living for holidays or overnight stays unless you have a reasonable excuse for doing so. This means that holidays in the UK and abroad are not allowed.

So whilst we may be out of lockdown soon, we can't really do a great deal or go anyway? Wetherspoons then back home it is! :D

Cornwall is over rated. Devon > Cornwall :)

And don't get me started on Devon/Cornwall cream tea :p

Yep everyone to devon, I agree, stuck on this horrible beach, at the moment, ah well keep my chin up :p
