Going around in circles need help! AMP + HiFi?

Let us know how you get on when you are up and running.

I've gone the other way. Ordered last night

SMSL SA50 amp
SMSL 793II dac/headphone.

I still have not ordered mine, as I started a new job today! Which i'm very happy about, but there is an awkward few weeks between pay checks :(.

I reckon I'll have it ordered by next week. Has anyone tested their speakers out yet? How are they?

Not yet, DPD say mine will arrive tomorrow but as the amp is a birthday present I probably won't be able to try the full set-up until the day after. Will post when I do though!

This thread is intresting, very intresting.

I am needing speakers for my PC, as i'll soon be using only my PC for media/games. I do currently use a DG sound card to power my Phillips X2s. I presume an amp/dac would do a better job via USB and still allow dolby headphone for games?

Also with the Topping VX1 I'd be able to run a wii U via this right, well anything with red/white leads I'd presume.

Im in too. Im committed now that I have the speakers (picked up some Cambridge audio sx-60 locally for £50!) Now trying to decide on amp or dac/amp think I have narrowed it down to 2 either the amptastic mini-1 (edging it at the mo) or the topping vx1. Looking forward to opinions on the VX1.

You'll need a DAC with SPDIF optical input so you can connect it to the DG to make use of Dolby Headphone. USB is separate so does not use the sound card.

Anything with stereo analogue output can be connected to the AUX in on these T amps, whether it be 3.5mm or RCA/phono. You just need the right cable.

Hmm, it might be worth for myself just getting a stereo amp rather than the Topping VX1 if I can't use Dolby Headphone. Or just use the sound card when I want Dolby Headphone.

All set-up:

VX1 installed no problems, just connect via USB and Windows does the rest. It can be set to turn on/off with the PC automatically too, which is handy. USB cable is a bit short so you may need a longer one if your PC is on the floor at the end of your desk like mine.

The Q-Acoustic 3010 speakers are very solid and weighty without being too big for my desk, and the front grilles are magnetic which is a nice touch and makes them easy to remove/install. Clarity is superb, which was the main thing I wanted out of a new audio set-up. I'm no audiophile at all so I don't know the terminology but I've been playing some of my favourite music the past hour or so and it all sounds very crisp, clear and detailed. I love music that has tiny detail in its layers and usually I have to put headphones on to get the most out of it, but I'm getting that from these speakers in equal measure now.

Very impressed overall, bass felt a bit lacking at first but after trying the right tracks it's there. Obviously not as much as you'd get from bigger speakers or with a sub but plenty for my liking.

Speakers/cable were from Audio Visual Online and the Topping VX1 was from Amazon (an external seller but fulfilled by Amazon), I can find the specific seller if anyone wants it.

Looking Good!

I have a fairly large Corner Desk even so I think the SX-60's I picked up are a bit overbearing they are pretty big I might have been better with the smaller Q-Acoustics!!! Those look spot on size wise for desktop use. Lets hope mine sound good as at the end of the day that's what matters. Just ordered my VX1 and cables so will update the thread once its all here.

Those 3010s are lovely, I might pick some of them up and leave my 1010s for when I want to go back to surround sound in the future. I might even go for the 3020s!

So much choice with speakers.

Now need to decide on an amp.

If you've got the space (and budget) for the 3020s then go for it, I can only imagine they're superb. I'd have never fit them on my desk though and the 'extra' they have over the 3010s would've just been wasted on me considering I was upgrading from relatively modest Logitech speakers.

After a few days of use I'm very happy with mine, they sound excellent and I'm hearing detail in songs that I never quite could before. The only oddity is that for some reason the VX1 seems to be causing my PC to take longer to boot. Not a huge deal (5-8 seconds maybe) but I'm not sure why it's doing it. Most likely a system-specific thing though.

That seems strange? That's a long time, considering my system only takes about that to boot up anyway.

Yes, moving soon with the desk built in. The room will it's going in will be rather small so I'll probably go with the 3010s anyway as the 3020s will be wasted I reckon. Nice upgrade from 1010s though.

Yeah it's odd, happens before the Dell logo appears. Now I've got some time off work I can have a play about, try some different USB ports. Works perfectly other than that though.

Yeah all in and it's very good. I would say if you like it loud then it may not be for you I tend to keep the volume dial at around 12 o'clock and it's perfectly fine for me. As stated it is fairly flat/neutral sound so not great if your a bass head unless you use the aux input and external eq but it has good tight bass on bass heavy tracks. Impressed for the money on paid £66 from ebay.

Also no issues with slow boot up but it does make an audible switching noise on from the Vx1 when switching output from headphones to speakers is yours the same?

Glad to hear it. It must just be a weird issue with my system in that case, not sure why though. I've disabled my onboard audio to see if that solves it but didn't make a difference.

I get a relay click when I turn the VX1 on, off or change the outputs, is that what you mean?

Yeah that's it its normal then. I just read before I bought it that someone had a similar issue took it apart and a.relay or component had come loose lol.

Sorry for the delay in response new job has been hectic. I ordered and received the VX 1 with my of 3010's. Hooked up via USB, Shark Loudspeaker Connection speaker cable and banana plugs (only for the amp.)

As easy as plug and play, everything worked fine. Activated the amp on pc on function straight away. They are so clean and crisp, love listening to music on these babys. I do like my bass though and I would say there is not as much as I would like, but the quality and other pros way outway the cons. Could always add a sub in the future :)

Yeah the bass is slightly lacking, doesn't bother me enough to be a problem either though, the clarity and crispness of the sound as you've said is more than enough to make up for any slight shortfalls.
