Going around in circles.. Which monitor?

I've been to-ing and fro-ing for weeks on this, it's doing my nut in now.. So hopefully someone can make my decision for me ;). It's tricky because I'll be using it for a bit of everything, I play games a fair bit and watch a lot of films as well as the usual desktop stuff, with a bit of photo editing thrown in as well. Here's what I'm after ideally, I know I'm going to have to compromise on at least one of these:

  • Not a PVA/MVA panel. I briefly had the Gateway 21" that uses the same panel as the Samsung 215W and took it back due to the colour shifting that is apparently there on all panels of this type.
  • 20" widescreen or over, or else it's not much of an improvement over my L90D+.
  • Preferably with component input for the Wii - I imagine it's this I'll have to let go, why on Earth have Nintendo dropped VGA as a connection?
  • I'd like it if it were usable in portrait mode too, whether that be by default or with the possibility of using a different stand.
  • I've got £400 max to spend.

Any thoughts/ideas?

Thanks :)

Edit: I guess I'll need 1:1 pixel scaling for the Wii too? Unless you can set the console up to do it, which I'd doubt.

I know you said £400 max but I'd try and muster up some extra cash and go for the Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP 24 on speicel offer this week for £516.99 inc VAT, have a looky here and read the reviews,

It has component input so you'll be able to wii on it :D, having a look at your sig it looks like you should'nt have any problems running most games at the monitors native res either.

That's an S-PVA panel though, isn't it? I don't know if they're all as bad as the Gateway I had but some people on here rave about the picture on the Samsung with the same panel so I assume it must be one of the better ones, if anything?

No-one got any other ideas? The closest thing I've found so far is a 22" Westinghouse, only box it doesn't tick is the portrait mode but I can live without that. It's not available in the UK though..
